Men’s Basketball Game vs. Penn State Sold Out
Mar 04 | Men's Basketball
PISCATAWAY - Rutgers Athletics announced today that the men's basketball Senior Night game versus Penn State on Wednesday at 7 p.m. is sold out. It marks the fifth sell-out of the season for RU, after capacity crowds watched the Scarlet Knights battle No. 8 Michigan State (Nov. 30), Maryland (Jan. 5), No. 7 Michigan (Feb. 5) and No. 21/17 Iowa (Feb. 16).
The sell-outs versus the Spartans, Terrapins, Wolverines, Hawkeyes and Nittany Lions signal the first time in 14 seasons that Rutgers has experienced five or more home sell-outs in a season. During the 2004-05 campaign, the Scarlet Knights enjoyed seven capacity crowds at the RAC.
Rutgers Athletics will implement an alternate traffic pattern for the match-up with the Nittany Lions. Fans are encouraged to arrive early, as increased traffic volume, combined with the closure of Scarlet Lot due to the construction of the RWJBarnabas Health Athletic Performance Center, may delay ingress and egress.
Those still looking for tickets to the March 6 Big Ten battle are encouraged to visit StubHub, the official fan-to-fan ticket market place of the Scarlet Knights.
Rutgers has experienced ticket growth each season under the leadership of head coach Steve Pikiell. Season ticket sales have increased 7% over 2017-18 and average attendance through 16 games has improved 28.8% from last year.
Per Ken Pomeroy, Rutgers is the nation's most improved Power 5 Conference men's program, improving 80 spots since the season's initial rating on Nov. 6. RU is also among the nation's youngest teams with 1.07 years of experience to rank 328th nationally out of 353 D-I programs, while competing against the nation's 17th most-difficult schedule per Pomeroy.
Rutgers (14-14, 7-11) works for its eighth Big Ten win and to improve to 5-5 at home in conference play when it welcomes PSU. Graduate student Shaquille Doorson will be honored in a pre-game ceremony. The team co-captain has shot 58.6% for his career, while playing in 118 career contests (32 starts), logging 1,446 minutes, grabbing 327 rebounds and issuing 75 blocks.
The Scarlet Knights' seven league victories are their most in conference play in 13 years, since also winning seven in Big East play in 2005-06.
