MINNEAPOLIS – The Big Ten Conference released Friday the final brackets for the 2019 Big Ten Wrestling Championships, held Saturday and Sunday (March 9-10) at Williams Arena in Minneapolis.
Anthony Ashnault (149) remained the No. 1 seed in his bracket and will face Indiana's Fernie Silva in the opening round, while No. 3-seed
Nick Suriano (133) will face Maryland's Orion Anderson to begin the tournament.
125: Shane Metzler (8-15) remained the No. 13 seed and will face No. 4-seed RayVon Foley (Michigan State).
133: Suriano faces No. 14-seed Anderson for the second consecutive outing, as Suriano pinned Anderson in RU's dual finale at Maryland on Feb. 22. Suriano is 4-2 against the Big Ten Championships field this season and finished the 2018-19 season with a 20-3 record.
141: No. 9-seed
Peter Lipari drew No. 8 Chad Red Jr. (Nebraska) in the opening round. Both met on Feb. 1 at the RAC, as Red Jr. walked away with a 16-5 major decision. Lipari is 10-10 this season and owns three wins against the field.
149: Ashnault will get a rematch with unseeded Silva, who he defeated, 8-7, on Feb. 8 in Bloomington. Ashnault is 23-0 this season and 10-0 against the field, which includes wins over No. 2-seed Micah Jordan (Ohio State), No. 3-seed Pat Lugo (Iowa), No. 4-seed Tommy Thorn (Minnesota), No. 5-seed Cole Martin (Wisconsin) and No. 8-seed Malik Amine (Michigan).
157: No. 10-seed
John Van Brill held his seed and drew No. 7-seed Ke-Shawn Hayes (Ohio State) in the first round. Van Brill faced Hayes at the Cliff Keen Invitational on Nov. 30, as Hayes defeated Van Brill by major, 10-2. Van Brill owns three wins against the field.
165: No. 12-seed
Stephan Glasgow held his seed and faces No. 5-seed Logan Massa (Michigan). Glasgow is 1-3 against the field in limited action this season, which includes a 7-4 decision against No. 13-seed Austin Hiles (Michigan State) on Jan. 25 at the RAC.
174: No. 9-seed
Joseph Grello held his seed and gets No. 8-seed Drew Hughes (Michigan State) in the first round. Grello dropped a tight 4-3 decision to Hughes on Jan. 25 at the RAC and owns three wins against the field this season.
184: Nicholas Gravina held his seed and gets No. 8-seed Max Lyon (Purdue) in the first round. Gravina defeated Lyon, 3-2, on Feb. 10 in West Lafayette and also owns wins against Brandon Krone (Minnesota) and Kyle Jasenski (Maryland) this season.
197: Matthew Correnti is unseeded and faces No. 2-seed Kollin Moore (Ohio State) in the opening round. Correnti has two wins against the field this season, including 7-4 decisions over Beau Breske (Minnesota) and Jake Kleimola (Indiana).
HWT: Christian Colucci is unseeded and gets No. 1-seed Gable Steveson (Minnesota) in the first round. Colucci has wins over Fletcher Miller (Indiana) and Jacob Aven (Purdue) this season.
