Women's Track & Field Plays Host To Metropolitan Outdoor Championships

Scarlet Knight Seniors To Be Honors on Saturday at 10 a.m.
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – The Rutgers women's track & field team will host the 2019 Metropolitan Outdoor Championships at the Bauer Track and Field Complex on Friday, April 12 and Saturday, April 13.
Action on Friday will begin at 1 p.m. with the Scarlet Knight seniors honored at 10 a.m. on Saturday prior to the day's action beginning at 10:30 a.m. Click here for full schedule.
Admission to the Bauer Track & Field Complex is free.
SENIOR KNIGHTS
The Rutgers women's track and field seniors will be honored at 10 a.m. on Saturday prior to the day's competition. The senior Scarlet Knights include Genevieve Cickavage, Oniesha Clarke, Phyllis Gordon, Rhonda Rogombe, Halia Rosemond, Jenna Sobieski, Ariel Strunkey and Arianne Strunkey.
PARKING & TRAFFIC ADVISORIES
Free parking is available at the RAC in the green and yellow lots. Fans must register for the free parking by clicking here. A single registration per car will cover both days of the meet.
Due to multiple events on campus slated for Saturday, April 12, Rutgers Athletics advises fans that there will be high traffic in the area
In addition to the Met Championships, Rutgers will be hosting the Student Services Fair as part of Admitted Students Open House at the RAC on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
RECAPPING LAST TIME OUT
The Rutgers women's track and field team captured a total of six top eight performances led by the 100m crown by senior Oniesha Clarke at the Sam Howell Invitational hosted by Princeton last weekend.
Clarke's time of 11.85 for the top spot in the 100m placed her name fourth among her Big Ten peers.
Additionally, the senior Scarlet Knight leapt to a distance of 5.61m (18' 5") for fourth in the long jump.
The 400m saw two Scarlet Knights in the top eight with Arianne Strunkey logging a time of 57.25 for fifth and teammate Ajae Alvarez-Tyler following in sixth in 57.32.
Also in the jumps, freshman Zia Barr set a new PR with a distance of 11.72m (38'6") for fourth place and Jacqueline Simmons took sixth in the long jump at 5.49 (18' 0.25").
AROUND THE RANKINGS
Rutgers is ranked 12th in this week's USTFCCA Mid-Atlantic Regional Track & Field Rating Index.
Freshman Reanda Richards' 400m hurdle time of 57.21, the second fastest Rutgers time in history, from the Florida Relays two weeks ago is still the top in the nation, East Region and Big Ten.
Redshirt junior Rhonda Rogombe's high jump of 1.78m (5' 10), which was .01m off tying the Rutgers outdoor record, at the Florida Relays is currently 18th nationally, 11th in the East Region and second in the Big Ten. Fellow high jumper, sophomore Courteney Campbell, is seventh in the Big Ten with her outdoor opener leap of 1.75m (5' 8.75") at the USF Bulls Invitaitonal.
Senior Jenna Sobieski's 800m time of 2:06.59, the second fastest time in the RU record books, places her sixth in the Big Ten.
Senior Oniesha Clarke's 100m title in 11.85 from last weekend's Sam Howell Invitational is currently eighth in the Big Ten.
LAST TIME AT THE METROPOLITAN OUTDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS
Rutgers last competed at the Metropolitan Outdoor Championships back in 2017 when the Scarlet Knights captured the team title behind nine event titles and six runner-up performances.
Rutgers captured 190 points to lead the 12-team field on its home turf. The 2016 champions, St. John's, finished in second with 162 points, while Manhattan placed third racking up 120 points.
Current senior Phyllis Gordon racked up two titles with her 400m run and performance with the 4x100m relay. The Neptune, New Jersey product produced a time of 56.54 for the 400m title.
Both relay entries were victorious with the 4x100m relay including Gordon and the 4x800m relay including fellow senior Scarlet Knight Jenna Sobieski
Redshirt junior Rhonda Rogombe also added a title clearing the bar at 1.66m (5' 5.25") for first in the high jump.
Senior Halia Rosemond, meanwhile, was the runner-up in the discus at a distance of 41.22m (135' 3").
