
Javelin Squad Goes One, Two on First Day of Metropolitan Championships

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – The Rutgers women's track and field's javelin squad shined on the first day of the 2019 Metropolitan Outdoor Championship hosted by Rutgers at the Bauer Track and Field Complex.
Sophomore Kathryn Campbell and freshman Alexa Gardner finished in first and second respectively with both Scarlet Knights capturing new PRs, as well as ECAC marks, in the javelin. Campbell reached 45.52m (149' 4"), surpassing her previous top distance of 44.74m (146' 9") set at the outdoor opener at the USF Bulls Invitational in taking the title. Gardner, the runner-up, went for 44.58m (146' 3") besting her previous top throw of 43.19 (141' 8) from the Florida Relays two weeks ago.
Rutgers steeplechase record holder, redshirt junior Lou Mialhe, finished fourth in the event in 11:47.04.
Freshman Rachel Herrman, meanwhile, made her 10,000m debut with a time of 41:14.41 to take seventh.
Day two action at the Metropolitan Outdoor Championships begin on Saturday at 10:30 a.m.
SENIOR KNIGHTS
The Rutgers women's track and field seniors will be honored at 10 a.m. on Saturday prior to the day's competition. The senior Scarlet Knights include Genevieve Cickavage, Oniesha Clarke, Phyllis Gordon, Rhonda Rogombe, Halia Rosemond, Jenna Sobieski, Ariel Strunkey and Arianne Strunkey.

Free parking is available at the RAC in the green and yellow lots. Fans must register for the free parking by clicking here. A single registration per car will cover both days of the meet.
Due to multiple events on campus slated for Saturday, April 12, Rutgers Athletics advises fans that there will be high traffic in the area
In addition to the Met Championships, Rutgers will be hosting the Student Services Fair as part of Admitted Students Open House at the RAC on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
