Women's T/F Takes Second At Met Championships Behind Eight Event Victories

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – The Rutgers women's track and field team wrapped up the 2019 Metropolitan Outdoor Championships on Saturday at the Bauer Track & Field Complex taking second overall and altogether captured eight events victories in the meet.
On the track, Rutgers saw individual event wins in the 800m, 5000m and 400m hurdles in addition to the top time in the 4x400m relay.
Senior Jenna Sobieski led the pack in the 800m crossing in a time of 2:08.01
Meanwhile in the distance group, sophomore Olympia Martin garnered the top time in the 5000m crossing the finish line in 17:45.68.
Freshman Reanda Richards, who holds the nation's top time in the 400m hurdles, collected her first career Metropolitan title posting a time of 58.57.
In the 4x400m relay, the Scarlet Knight quarter of freshman Ajae Alvarez-Tyler, junior Arianne Strunkey, Sobieski and Richards on the anchor compiled their best result of the season with a time of 3:44.49.
After sophomore Kathryn Campbell won the javelin to kickoff field events on day one of the Metropolitan Championships, it was the jumps unit turn to shine on day two on Saturday with three event wins.
Senior Oniesha Clarke recorded a season-best in the long jump reaching a distance of 6.05m (19' 10.25") for the crown. Freshman Zia Barr leapt to a new PR for the triple jump title going for 11.90m (39' 0.5") and besting her previous mark of 11.73m set last week at the Sam Howell Invitational. Sophomore Courteney Campbell, meanwhile, tied her PR for the third time in her Scarlet Knight career in clearing the bar at 1.75m (5. 8.75") to win the high jump.
Other notable finishes for the Scarlet Knights included freshman Iyanla Kollock taking second in the 100m with a new PR of 11.93 and senior Halia Rosemond throwing for second in the discus at 43.95m (144' 2") for a new best and surpassing her previous PR of 43.20 (141' 9") set at the outdoor opener at USF.
St. John's won the women's team title with 184 points followed by Rutgers with 166 points and Fordham in third with 124 points.
The Rutgers women's track and field team returns to competition next weekend splitting the squad between the Virginia Challenge and Princeton's Larry Ellis Invitational.
