Women's Track Splits Squads Between UVA Challenge & Larry Ellis Invite

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – The Rutgers women's track and field team splits the squad for this week's action with Scarlet Knights participating at the Virginia Challenge in Charlottesville, Virginia and Princeton's Larry Ellis Invitational.
RECAPPING LAST TIME OUT
The Rutgers women's track and field team took second place at the Metropolitan Outdoor Championships as the Scarlet Knights altogether captured eight events victories in the meet.
On the track, Rutgers saw individual event wins in the by senior Jenna Sobieski in the 800m, sophomore Olympia Martin in 5000m and freshman Reanda Richards in 400m hurdles in addition to the top time in the 4x400m relay.
In the 4x400m relay, the Scarlet Knight quarter of freshman Ajae Alvarez-Tyler, junior Arianne Strunkey, Sobieski and Richards on the anchor compiled their best result of the season with a time of 3:44.49.
On the field, the jumps unit shined with three wins. Senior Oniesha Clarke recorded a season-best in the long jump reaching a distance of 6.05m (19' 10.25") for the crown. Freshman Zia Barr leapt to a new PR for the second-straight week for the triple jump title going for 11.90m (39' 0.5") Sophomore Courteney Campbell, meanwhile, tied her PR for the third time in her Scarlet Knight career in clearing the bar at 1.75m (5. 8.75") to win the high jump.
The javelin squad also produced new PRs going one-two in the meet. Sophomore Kathryn Campbell reached a personal best of 45.52m (149' 4") for the crown while freshman Alexa Gardner, the runner-up, went for 44.58m (146' 3").
Other notable finishes for the Scarlet Knights included freshman Iyanla Kollock taking second in the 100m with a new PR of 11.93 and senior Halia Rosemond throwing for second in the discus at 43.95m (144' 2") for a new best.
AROUND THE RANKINGS
Rutgers moved up to ninth in this week's USTFCCA Mid-Atlantic Regional Track & Field Rating Index.
Freshman Reanda Richards' 400m hurdle time of 57.21, the second fastest Rutgers time in history, from the Florida Relays three weeks ago is still the top in the nation, East Region and Big Ten.
Redshirt junior Rhonda Rogombe's high jump of 1.78m (5' 10), which was .01m off tying the Rutgers outdoor record, at the Florida Relays is currently 20th nationally, 13th in the East Region and second in the Big Ten. Fellow high jumper, sophomore Courteney Campbell, is seventh in the Big Ten with her leap of 1.75m (5' 8.75") occurring twice this season.
Senior Jenna Sobieski's 800m time of 2:06.59, the second fastest time in the RU record books, from the Florida Relays places her sixth in the Big Ten.
LAST TIME AT THE LARRY ELLIS INVITATIONAL
Last year at the Larry Ellis Invitational, Rutgers earned four first place finishes and set a new steeplechase record.
Oniesha Clarke led the way with two event victories along with a runner-up performance. She captured the top time in the 100m in 11.81 and reset her top time in the 200m as the first one across the finish line in 24.11. Clarke also placed second in the long jump at a distance of 5.90m.
Olympia Martin registered a then-PR of 9:54.36 in her first place run in the 3000m.
In the steeplechase, Lou Mialhe set a new Rutgers benchmark in the event for a second time this season racing to a Scarlet Knight all-time best of 11:06.17.
