Men’s T/F Repeats as Metropolitan Outdoor Champions

PISCATAWAY, N.J.  – Rutgers men's track and field defended its Metropolitan Outdoor Championships title on Saturday at the Bauer Track and Field Complex. The Scarlet Knights claimed 14 event titles and 25 Top 3 finishes overall to help register 273.5 points for the win.
 
Fordham finished in second with 136 points followed by Manhattan in third with 135 points.
 
Senior Izaiah Brown (100m), sophomore Taj Burgess (200m, 400m), sophomore Billy Hill (1500m), freshman Andrew Daniluk (110m hurdles), and freshman Jameson Woodell (400m hurdles) all collected titles on the track.
 
The 4x100m, 4x800m, and 4x400m relays all finished first.
 
In field events, graduate student Chris Mirabelli (javelin), junior Perry Christie (high jump), freshman David Bausmith (pole vault), sophomore Malachi Davis (triple jump) and senior John Mooers (discus) claimed individual titles.

THANK YOU, SENIORS
Prior to the meet, Rutgers honored a few members of its graduating class - Izaiah Brown, Dimitri Demos, Jordan Lorenzo, Chris Mirabelli, John Mooers, Dom Munson, Jairus Paul, Sterling Pierce, Luke Wiley, Edward Zaleck - in a Senior Day ceremony. 
 
TRACK EVENTS
Burgess claimed titles in the 200m with a time of 21.25 and in the 400m with a time of 46.06. Brown claimed the 100m title with a 10.49 results.
 
Pierce finished second in both the 100m with a time of 10.74 and in the 200m with a mark of 21.95.
 
Daniluk won the 110m hurdles with a result of 14.86, while Woodell won the 400m hurdles with a time of 54.31. Sophomore Christopher Jenkins finished third in the 400m hurdles with a mark of 56.35.
 
In the 1500m, Hill took first with a PR time of 3:51.30 followed by junior Cole Pschunder in third with a time of 3:52.34. Andrew Comito, Younass Barkouch and Steven Steinberg McElroy also represented Rutgers in the race.
 
Sophomore Eric Barnes finished second in the 800m (PR - 1:53.21) followed by Jason Schweizer in fourth (1:53.21). Senior Edward Zaleck (PR - 1:53.35), junior Sean Martinek (1:54.66), and Jared Skalski (1:56.66) also represented RU in the event.

Sophomore Patrick Walsh finished second in the 10,000m race, clocking a time of 33:15.38. Walsh and freshman Cole Hindley also ran in the 5,000m race.

 
The 4x100m relay team of Woodell, Zaleck, Semaj Willis, and Jenkins crossed the line first with a time of 40.49.

The 4x400m relay team of A'Nan Bridgett, Brown, Burgess, and Pierce clocked a time of 3:18.28 to also finish first.

The 4x800m relay team Dimitri Demos Ryan Downey, Christopher Smith, and Hill finished first as well with a time of 7:46.96.
 
 
FIELD EVENTS
Rutgers swept the top three spots of the javelin as Mirabelli claimed the title with a throw of 66.63m (218' 7"). Junior Greg Harnett followed in second with a throw of 62.56m (205' 3"), while classmate Michael Thomas finished third with a mark of 57.63m (189' 1").
 
In the pole vault, Rutgers also took the top two spots in the pole vault. Bausmith placed first with a 4.45m (14' 7.25") mark followed by junior Jarrod Brovero with a 4.40m (14' 5.25") result.
 
Rutgers claimed the top four spots in the high jump. Christie led the way with a 2.07m (6' 9.5") leap. Senior Jordan Lorenzo, Willis and Bridgett followed second, third, and fourth, respectively, with a jump of 1.97m (6' 5.5").
 
Bridgett finished second in the long jump with a mark of 7.41m (24' 3.75") followed by sophomore Malachi Davis in third with a leap of 7.38m (24' 2.5"). Senior Jairus Paul finished in fifth with a jump of 7.25m (23' 9.5"). Junior Patrick Warren rounded out the group with a 6.87m (22' 6.5") mark.
 
Davis won the triple jump with a 15.47m (50' 9.25") followed by Paul in third with a mark of 15.01m (49' 3").
 
Mooers won the discus with a throw of 52.79m (173' 2"). Sophomore Jason Campbell finished second with a 52.57m (172' 6") throw followed by freshman Kamron Kobolak with a new personal-best 46.53m (152' 8") throw.
 
Kobolak finished fourth in the shot put with a new personal-best mark of 15.92m (52' 2.75").
 
UP NEXT
Rutgers returns for day two of the Met Championships on Saturday with events beginning at 10:30 a.m. Prior to the start, the Scarlet Knights will honor the Class of 2019 with a Senior Day ceremony at 10 a.m.
