PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers men's track and field split its squad for competition at the Virginia Challenge and Princeton Larry Ellis Invitational on April 19-20. The Scarlet Knights posted numerous PRs and top finishes across both meets.
Senior
John Mooers led RU by claiming the discus title in Virginia, while senior
Perry Christie finished second in the high jump and freshman
A'Nan Bridgett finished third in the long jump at the Challenge as well.
VIRGINIA CHALLENGE
TRACK EVENTS
Sophomore
Taj Burgess finished sixth in the 400m invite with a time of 47.57, while senior
Sterling Pierce clocked a time of 10.97 in the 100m and a mark of 21.94 in the 200m.
In the 400m hurdles invite, freshman
Jameson Woodell clocked a time of 54.83 to finish in the top 10 followed by sophomore
Christopher Jenkins with a time of 55.08.
FIELD EVENTS
Mooers won the discus with a personal-best throw of 54.39m (178' 5"), putting him fifth in the Big Ten this season. Sophomore
Jason Campbell followed in fifth with a result of 50.17m (164' 4").
In the long jump invite, Bridgett registered a PR of 7.72m (25' 4") to finish third, while also etching his name into third on the Rutgers record list. The mark also put him at second in the Big Ten and 13th in the region. Sophomore
Malachi Davis finished sixth in the event with an outdoor personal-best of 7.49m (24' 7").
In the high jump invite, junior
Perry Christie finished second with a new outdoor PR of 2.13m, narrowly missing his top mark of 2.16m. Sophomore
Semaj Willis followed in seventh with an outdoor PR of 2.08m.
In the javelin, junior
Greg Harnett recorded a throw of 60.80m (199' 6") to finish eighth in the field. Junior
Michael Thomas also added a throw of 58.13m (190' 8").
Senior
Jairus Paul finished fifth in the triple jump with a leap of 14.56m (47' 9.25"), while classmate
Jordan Lorenzo finished third in the high jump with a leap of 1.98m. Junior
Patrick Warren represented RU in the long jump as well.
PRINCETON LARRY ELLIS INVITATIONAL
TRACK EVENTS
In the 800m Elite final, sophomore
Billy Hill led RU with a new outdoor PR of 1:52.32. Classmate
Eric Barnes followed with a 1:54.14 mark. Senior
Edward Zaleck, who added an outdoor PR of 1:54.95, and junior
Sean Martinek (1:55.95) also represented Rutgers in the race.
In the 800m unseeded final, freshman
Chris Smith finished second in his heat, posting a time of 1:57.06.
Junior
Cole Pschunder clocked an outdoor personal-best time of 15:04.84 in the 5000m final followed by sophomore
Patrick Walsh with an outdoor PR of 15:29.05.
Freshman
Andrew Daniluk posted a time of 15.49 in the 110m hurdles.
FIELD EVENTS
Freshman
Kamron Kobolak recorded a throw of 46.38 (152' 2") in the discus throw final.
