Men’s and Women’s Track & Field Named USTFCCCA All-Academic Teams

Richards and Smith named USTFCCCA All-Academic Athletes

PISCATAWAY, N.J.  –  Rutgers men's and women's track and field were named U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Teams for the 2019-20 season, it was announced on Thursday.

To qualify for the team award, schools must attain at least a 3.00 cumulative team grade point average. The Scarlet Knight women registered a team GPA of 3.33, while the men achieved a team GPA of 3.12.
 
Individually, sophomore Reanda Richards and freshman Claudine Smith were named USTFCCCA All-Academic Athletes for holding a cumulative grade point average of a 3.25 or higher and finishing ranked in the top 96 in any championship individual event this indoor season.

Richards finished eighth in the Big Ten in the 400m with a season-best time of 54.51. Smith concluded the year third in the league with a school record triple jump of 12.68m (41' 7.25").
 
Overall, Rutgers recorded a successful year in the classroom as 41 Scarlet Knights were named Academic All-Big Ten. On the men's side, Alanzo Aris, Will Berger, A'nan Bridgett , Jarrod Brovero, Andrew Comito, Ryan Downey, Greg Harnett, Aidin Hendriks, Cade Hindley, Nicholas Hutchison, Christopher Jenkins, Kamron Kobolak, Atharv Kulkarni, Sean Martinek, Conor Murphy, Cole Pschunder, Jared Skalski, Chris Smith, Steven Steinberg-McElroy, Michael Thomas, Peter Tilton, and Patrick Walsh were recognized.
 
For the women, Ajae Alvarez-Tyler, Emma Bergman, Erin Bertscha, Kathryn Campbell, Kelsey Farbanish, Alexa Gardner, Dakota Gerges, Sara Gutter, Alexandra Marko, Olympia Martin, Kiera Nealon, Reanda Richards, Brooke Riedy, Rhonda Rogombe, Kayla Rosario, Gabriela Sanchez, Nadia Saponara, Selena Thorne, and Chloe Wong earned the honor.
 
Additionally, Jarrod Brovero, Ryan Downey, Dakota Gerges, Christopher Jenkins, Atharv Kulkarni, Sean Martinek, Conor Murphy, Rhonda Rogombe and Gabriela Sanchez were all named Big Ten Distinguished Scholars for maintaining a minimum GPA of 3.70 or higher in 2019-20.
