The Five Things to Know
1. The "R Awards", the annual red carpet event that recognizes via both awards and videos the many accomplishments of the Scarlet Knights on the field, in the classroom and in the community, will take place on Tuesday night.
2. Rutgers received public recognition from the NCAA with a school-record nine programs earning acknowledgement for their multi-year Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores.
3. Softball's Katie Wingert appeared on ESPN's SportsCenter on Friday evening with the No. 8 entry in the Top 10 Plays and a one-minute segment highlighting her three extra-inning, walk-off home runs in consecutive home games.
4. Wrestling's NCAA Champions Anthony Ashnault and Nick Suriano along with head coach Scott Goodale will throw out the first pitch for Tuesday's baseball game between Rutgers and Villanova at 1 p.m. at Bainton Field.
5. Rutgers Athletics will hold a Fred Hill Memorial Celebration on Saturday at noon. The event will take place inside the Fred Hill Training Complex.
Softball (28-23, 11-12 Big Ten)
• Earned its highest Big Ten Tournament seed since joining the conference in 2015. The No. 6 seeded Scarlet Knights will play No. 11 Purdue in the first round of the single-elimination tournament on Thursday (7 p.m., BTN) at Indiana's Andy Mohr Field in Bloomington.
• Anyssa Iliopoulos was named the Big Ten Player of the Week after collecting four home runs against Michigan State and totaling nine RBIs on the week.
• Claimed a Big Ten series over Michigan State to close the regular season and tie the program's highest Big Ten win mark with 11. Katie Wingert's third consecutive walk-off home run ended Friday's game, 7-5, then the team set a new program record for home runs in a season during Saturday's doubleheader split.
• Wingert's second straight extra-inning, walk-off dinger topped LIU Brooklyn, 7-5, on Wednesday as all 18 rostered players entered the box score in a total team win.
• Honored its five members of the Class of 2019 - Nicolette Anico, Adriana Burcar, Jess Hughes, Whitney Jones and Allie Yoffee - during Saturday's Senior Day ceremony.
Baseball (19-25, 8-9 Big Ten)
• Hosts four games at Bainton Field this week, starting Tuesday versus Villanova (1 p.m., BTN Plus). Welcomes Northwestern for a three-game weekend series, with Sunday being Senior Day. (Fri: 2 p.m., BTN Plus | Sat: 2 p.m., BTN Plus | Sun: Noon, BTN Plus)
• Enters the week tied for seventh place in the Big Ten standings with two weekends remaining. The top eight qualify for the Big Ten playoffs.
• Topped Rider, 5-4, in midweek action at home before splitting two games at Penn State over the weekend.
• The finale in University Park was rained out.
• Tevin Murray worked a career-high eight innings with nine strikeouts in the 5-1 win over the Nittany Lions. Lefty lowered his Big Ten ERA to 0.73 and has allowed just one earned run in his last five starts.
• Kevin Welsh delivered a go-ahead two-run single with bases loaded and two outs in the seventh inning as RU posted five unanswered runs in the last three frames for the victory over PSU.
No. 20 Men's Lacrosse (7-8, 2-3 Big Ten)
• Had a program-record four All-Big Ten selections, as well as three First Team All-Big Ten selections. Adam Charalambides, Max Edelmann and Kieran Mullins were named First Team All-Big Ten and Kyle Pless was named Second Team All-Big Ten. Max Edelmann was named Big Ten Co-Specialist of the Year.
• Fell to No. 1 Penn State in Big Ten Semifinals, hosted by Rutgers.
• Ryan Gallagher was named to the Big Ten All-Tournament Team.
Women's Lacrosse
• Laura Brand Sias, who directed the Rutgers women's lacrosse program to 133 victories over 17 seasons, has stepped down as head coach.
• Sarah Cedarstrand was one of 22 athletes selected to the U19 Puerto Rico Women's Lacrosse National Team. The squad makes its international debut this summer at the Federation of International Lacrosse's (FIL) Women's U19 World Championships in Peterborough, Canada.
No. 16 Rowing
• Won the Women's Eastern Sprints, topping a 14-team field
• Placed first in six of seven events on the afternoon, including an upset of No. 13 Harvard in the varsity eight
• Earned its first team victory at the Eastern Sprints and win in the varsity eight in program history
Men's Track and Field
• Competes at the Big Ten Outdoor Championships on May 10-12 at the University of Iowa.
Women's Track and Field
• Competes at the Big Ten Outdoor Championships on May 10-12 at the University of Iowa.
• Entering the championships, Reanda Richards is fourth nationally, second in the East Region and leads the Big Ten in the 400m hurdles.
• Additionally, Rhonda Rogombe is ranked third in the Big Ten in the high jump.
Women's Tennis
• Announced its 2019 award winners.
Wrestling
• Anthony Ashnault, Nick Suriano and 2019 signee JoJo Aragona will all wrestle in the 2019 "Grapple at the Garden" Beat the Streets (BTS) benefit at Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden on Monday night in New York City.
Women's Basketball
• Incoming Scarlet Knight Maori Davenport accepted an invitation to participate in the 2018 USA Women's U19 World Cup Team trials.
• Announced its 2018-19 team award winners.
Field Hockey
• Welcomed seven newcomers to the team for the upcoming fall.
Athletics
• Rutgers Athletic Compliance hosted the 2019 Big Ten Conference Spring Meetings on campus. Over 150 representatives from the Big Ten's 14 institutions, Conference Office and the NCAA met to discuss a wide-range of compliance topics.
