ROSEMONT, Ill. (May 6, 2019) – Junior Anyssa Iliopoulos of Rutgers softball has been named the Big Ten Player of the Week for her performance during the period ending May 5.
 
The Norridge, Illinois native slugged four home runs during the weekend Big Ten series victory over Michigan State, and totaled nine RBIs during a 4-1 week that saw the Scarlet Knights clinch their first winning season since 2015.
 
Earning her first Big Ten weekly award, Iliopoulos is the first Big Ten Player of the Week from Rutgers since Stephanie Huang in 2016. This is the Scarlet Knights' second weekly honor from the Big Ten this season.
 
Iliopoulos batted .429 with a .467 on-base percentage and 1.286 slugging percentage last week, hitting four home runs with nine RBI and five runs scored as Rutgers won three of four games to secure its first winning season since 2015.
 
She had home runs in all three games of a Big Ten weekend series with Michigan State, including two home runs and four RBI as part of a 3-for-3 performance in the opener of a May 4 doubleheader.
 
The Chicago-area slugger added a three-run home run in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings in the nightcap of the May 4 doubleheader against MSU.
 
Iliopoulos was named a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar and an Academic All-Big Ten selection in 2017-18.
 
The No. 6 seeded Scarlet Knights play No. 11 Purdue on Thursday, May 9 at 7 p.m. in the opening round of the Big Ten Softball Tournament in Bloomington, Indiana.
