2019 NCAA Champion joins Ashnault, Aragona at All-Star Event in NYC
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – 2019 NCAA Champion Nick Suriano has accepted an invitation to compete at the 2019 "Grapple at the Garden" Beat the Streets (BTS) benefit at Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden on May 6 in New York City. Suriano joins fellow national champion Anthony Ashnault and 2019 signee JoJo Aragona at the all-star event.
Suriano will face Joe Colon – a bronze medalist at the 2018 World championships at 61kg in Budapest and two-time NCAA qualifier at Northern Iowa – in one of the Team USA vs. NCAA Champions matches. Colon went 62-6 in two years in Cedar Falls and is currently a volunteer assistant coach at Fresno State.
Suriano is coming off an historic junior season, as the Paramus native finished 29-3 en route to both a Big Ten title and national championship at 133 pounds. At nationals, Suriano defeated No. 1 seed Daton Fix (Oklahoma State) in the 133-pound final, using a takedown in overtime to seal the victory.
Ashnault will face New Jersey native and former Nebraska wrestler James Green – a four-time All-American, Big Ten Champion, 2017 US Open champion and two-time World medalist – in another of the Team USA vs. NCAA Champions matches. Aragona will face New York state champion Adam Busiello in one of the featured junior bouts that precedes the main event.
Tickets for 2019 Beat the Streets at Madison Square Garden can be purchased here. For the fifth straight year, FloSports will provide live and on-demand coverage on FloWrestling.com, with a livestream of the event found here.
Beat the Streets Benefit competitions, which began in 2010, have since become a major showcase of the best of international wrestling.
