2018-19 Women's Cross Country and Track & Field Team Award Winners

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – The Rutgers women's cross country and track & field teams announced their annual awards for the 2018-19 season.

Most Valuable (XC) – Olympia Martin
The sophomore from Ridgewood, New Jersey led the Scarlet Knights in all eight races in the fall of 2018, including RU's top finishes at the Big Ten Championships and NCAA Regional. She began the season with a first place finish among the underclassmen group at the Monmouth Kickoff and captured a season-best 6K time at the Big Ten Championships.

Most Improved (XC) – Nadia Saponara
The junior from Ringoes, New Jersey was consistently one of the top members of the Scarlet Knight pack across the finish line and was shy of resetting her personal best in several races, including her performances at the Big Ten Championships, Penn State National Open and Paul Short Run.

Best Freshman (XC) – Brooke Riedy
The first-year Scarlet Knight from Flemington, New Jersey was the top Rutgers freshman finisher at the season opening Monmouth Kickoff and later logged her best time of the season at the Paul Short Invitational.

Most Valuable, Best Freshman (Track) – Reanda Richards
A First Team All-American, the Roseland, New Jersey native captured fourth place at the NCAA Outdoor Championships and brought home crowns from the Big Ten Outdoor Championships and NCAA East Regional in the 400m hurdles. Altogether, Richards won six 400m hurdle titles during the outdoor season and posted the second fastest time in Rutgers history in the event.

Most Valuable (Field) – Courteney Campbell & Rhonda Rogombe
The Big Ten runner-up and a three-time NCAA Regional qualifier in the high jump share the Scarlet Knights' most valuable honor for the field.
Campbell, a sophomore from Kendall Park, New Jersey captured silver at the Big Ten Outdoor Championship, won the Metropolitan Indoor and Outdoor titles and qualified for her first NCAA Regional appearance this season.
Rogombe, a redshirt junior out of Charlestown, West Virginia, was .01 meters shy of tying the Rutgers outdoor high jump record this season with a height of 1.78m (5' 10") with her Florida Relay title. She was also the Metropolitan Indoor champion and Outdoor runner-up.

Most Improved (Track) – Jenna Sobieski
The senior out of Old Bridge, New Jersey had a memorable final season "On The Banks" with an appearance in the finals of the 800m at the Big Ten Indoor Championships, setting the second fastest Rutgers times for the 800m in both the indoor and outdoor seasons and helping the sprint medley relay team to a new school record at Penn Relays. Sobieski also made her first NCAA Regional appearance and was the Metropolitan Outdoor Champion in the 800m.

Most Improved (Field) – Kathryn Campbell
The sophomore from Lake Hiawatha, New Jersey captured sixth in the javelin at the Big Ten Championship with a throw that landed her fifth all-time in the Rutgers record books. In addition to qualifying for the NCAA Regional, she also captured the Metropolitan Outdoor and USF Bulls Invitational titles.
