PISCATAWAY, N.J. – A goal from senior Brittany LaPlant in the 47th minute delivered the upset of No. 11 Tennessee on Thursday night at Yurcak Field. Junior Nneka Moneme provided the assist, while sophomore Meagan McClelland registered her second shutout of the year in net.

The Scarlet Knights dominated on the attack in the first half, leading in possession and shots, 9-3. Rutgers kept knocking at the door with shots just over the post. However, the score was locked at 0-0 heading into the break.
Rutgers returned with the same energy from the first half. Then in the 47th minute, the Scarlet Knights found the opening. Moneme slipped a pass through two Tennessee defenders to find LaPLant. LaPlant then struck on her second touch in the box to score straight into the center of the net, lifting Rutgers up, 1-0, over Tennessee.
RU never let up on the pressure, firing off three more shots across the next few minutes of play. In the 86th minute, an attempt from Moneme nearly cushioned the lead, but it would be saved by the Vols' keeper.
Despite Tennessee finding back-to-back corner kicks in the game's waning minutes, the Rutgers defense denied both attempts to seal the win.
