Unger-DeBlasio Cup Set for Sept. 13
Aug 05 | Women's Golf
PISCATAWAY - Rutgers University Women's Golf, under the leadership of head coach Kari Williams, will host the seventh annual Unger-DeBlasio Cup at the Rutgers University Golf Course on Friday, Sept. 13. Former letterwinners, alumni and friends of the program are welcome to compete in the highly-anticipated event, which will celebrate 42 years of women's golf "On the Banks."
To register for the Cup, please visit the Rutgers University Alumni Association's event page.
Playing, lunch reception and sponsorship opportunities are available. After registration and warm-up, the event tees-off with a shotgun start at 8:45 a.m. A lunch reception with the team and awards presentation will take place after all rounds are completed at approximately 1:30 p.m.
Proceeds from the Cup benefit the Rutgers University Women's Golf Program.
Last year, more than 60 golfers competed, including alumnae from every decade of the program. Tournament namesake Art DeBlasio was on the winning foursome, which also featured Kenny Fivek, Paul Schoeb and Mike DeBlasio.
In 1977, women's golf became an intercollegiate sport at Rutgers led by 17-year Head Coach Jan Unger. Serving as head coach from 1978-1995, Unger laid the solid foundation that can be attributed to the program's current success. Art DeBlasio served as the assistant coach under Unger for many years, while holding the position of Head Golf Professional at the Rutgers Golf Course from 1966-2001. DeBlasio celebrates more than a half century membership with the PGA.
Over 6,300 yards in length, the picturesque, tree-lined, PGA sanctioned Rutgers University Golf Course is a par 72 and offers a challenging layout with four teeing areas per hole. Highlights include narrow fairways, fast greens, and water hazards on nine holes. Founded in 1963, the course is located on the Busch Campus. The mission of the course is to ensure that every player enjoys a timely round of golf played on superior fairways and true greens with uncompromising service and instruction.
