PISCATAWAY, N.J. –  No. 19/13 Rutgers women's soccer closed out nonconference play with a 1-0, double overtime victory at Delaware on Sunday afternoon. Junior
Amirah Ali converted on a penalty kick in the 102nd minute to lift the Scarlet Knights to victory.

QUICK STATS
Rutgers (6-0-1) led Delaware (4-4-0) in shots, 19-8, and corners, 8-3, throughout the contest. Ali registered her third PK and second game winner on the season.

Sophomore goalkeeper
Meagan McClelland posted her fifth shutout of the year, while registering a save. UD's goalkeeper Kamryn Stablein posted eight saves in the loss.

THE MATCH
Rutgers and Delaware started off the contest with a scoreless first half. The Scarlet Knights rattled off six shots in the opening frame, two of which were on goal. The RU defense would hold the Blue Hens to just two shots on goal, as the squads went into halftime with a 0-0 tie.

Six minutes into the second half, Rutgers registered three consecutive shots in a single minute with two being saved and the third going just high of the post. Overall, RU would lead UD, 10-3, in shots across the second stanza, but the Blue Hens' keeper came up with five saves to push the match into overtime.

In the 93rd minute, RU found the back of the net, but, ultimately, it would not count due to an offside call. Moving into the second overtime period, senior defender
Amanda Visco sent a shot in off a corner kick in the 101st minute. However, UD's keeper knocked the attempt wide. Â

Then in the 102nd minute, a Delaware player brought down Visco inside the box, leading to a yellow card and setting up a penalty kick for Rutgers. Ali converted for her third PK of the season and second game winner of the year.

UP NEXT
Rutgers begins Big Ten play with two contests at Yurcak Field this upcoming weekend. First, RU hosts Minnesota on Friday, Sept. 20 for a 7 p.m. match. The Scarlet Knights then host No. 22 Wisconsin on Sunday for a Noon matchup on Big Ten Network.

- Rutgers closed nonconference play with a 6-0-1 record, including a 5-0 mark at home and a 1-0-1 record on the road.
- RU moved to a record of 2-0-1 in overtime contests this season. RU is 12-0-16 in its last 28 overtime games dating back to the middle of 2016.
- Amirah Ali is 3-for-3 in penalty kick attempts this season. It also marked her second game winner of the year and eighth game winner of her career.
- Ali has registered seven overtime goals in her career.
- Meagan McClelland notched her fifth shutout of the season and 12th of her career.
