Sep 19 | Women's Golf
PISCATAWAY - Women's golf travels to University Park to compete in the Nittany Lion Invitational on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 21-22, on the Penn State Blue Course. The Scarlet Knights will make their fifth consecutive appearance at the tournament and will work toward another strong showing after placing third in the event last year.
Seniors Carrie-Ann Lee and Ana Cortes, junior Eun Won Park, sophomore Maeve Rossi and freshman Anna-Maria Diederichs will comprise the RU travel party under head coach Kari Williams.
The Scarlet Knights will be joined by the host Nittany Lions, Akron, Bucknell, Georgetown, High Point, Ohio U, Penn State, Seton Hall, Navy, UPenn and Youngstown State.
RU placed sixth with a 908 (304-305-299) total at the 11-team Marilynn Smith Sunflower Invitational at Colbert Hills Golf Course to open its season this past weekend. Four Scarlet Knights finished among the top 25, as RU was even on par five holes to lead the tournament in the category.
Last fall in University Park, the Scarlet Knights finished third with a then program-record 879 (299-288-292) total. Rossi was runner-up in the 90-player field with a three-under par 213 (71-70-72), the second-best, three-round individual effort in school history, while Lee tied for 17th.
Thirty-six holes are scheduled for day one, with an additional 18 slated for Sunday on the par 72, 6,322-yard course. Play will begin via a 9 a.m. shotgun start on both days. Live results will be available via Golfstat.
