WASHINGTON, D.C. (Sept. 20, 2019) – Rutgers volleyball dropped a match in straight sets at American on Friday evening to kick off a two-game swing in the Nation's Capital to conclude 2019 nonconference play.
- Junior right side Beka Kojadinovic led the Scarlet Knights in kills, digs and blocks. The Serbia native posted six kills, five digs and three blocks in the setback.
- American's straight set win was powered by a .316 hitting percentage compared to Rutgers .167. The Eagles also held a 10-2 advantage in service aces and 43-30 edge in digs.
- Set 1 | Rutgers' Top 10 nationally ranked blocking unit was at work early with the first two points of the match put down by the block. American rallied with an 8-0 run to take control of the set and coast to a 25-14 win.
- Set 2 | Sophomore outside hitter Anastasiya Kudryashova was in the middle of an 8-2 run to come from behind early in the second. She had a pair of kills in the first 4-0 run, then capped off the second 4-0 spurt with a service ace. American again had the answer with a 4-0 run of its own, then won the final seven points of the set consecutively for the 25-17 win.
- Set 3 | Sophomore outside hitter Anastasiia Maksimova and senior middle Jasmine Stackhouse each posted two kills during a stretch in the middle of the set, but the Eagles traded points with a slight advantage in their pocket, leading to a 25-21 win to secure the sweep.
The Scarlet Knights play their final nonconference match of the season at Howard on Saturday, Sept. 21 at 2 p.m.
