Men's Soccer Battles Elon on Saturday

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – The Rutgers men's soccer is on the road again and closes out its three-game season-opening road swing meeting Elon at Rudd Field on Saturday at 7 p.m.
| RUTGERS QUICK KICKS |
- The Rutgers men's soccer team closes out its season-opening three game road trip with a return date to Elon on Saturday.
- The Scarlet Knights are 2-0 for the first time since 2015 after back-to-back trips to Philadelphia that resulted in a 1-0 win at Temple and a 2-1 come-from-behind victory at Drexel.
- Freshman midfielder Jørgen Wisth Lie was named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week on Wednesday after converting two PK's in the wins, including the game-winner against the Owls.
- Jackson Temple, meanwhile, collected the game-winner in the win over the Dragons taking the slot from sophomore Valentino Ambrosio into the back of the net in the 77th minute.
- Freshman goalkeeper Oren Asher has totaled seven saves in his first two outings and logged his first career clean sheet with five saves in his Scarlet Knight debut at Temple.

- Elon opened the 2019 campaign with its seventh-straight appearance at the John Rennie/Nike Invitational hosted by Duke.
- The Phoenix went 1-0-1 with a 3-2 win over CSU Bakersfield and a 3-3 draw with Furman.
- Sophomore midfielder Christian Lauenborg was named the Colonial Athletic Association Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week after scoring in both games over the weekend.
- A member of the All-Tournament Team, he tied the game with the Roadrunners at 2-2 in the 72nd minute in the eventual 3-2 victory and added a PK and an assist against the Paladins in the stalemate follow up contest.
- In goal, redshirt freshman Peter Wentzel has made eight total saves and currently holds down a .500 save percentage.
- Last season, Elon went 5-8-2 overall and 2-5-1 in CAA play.
- Among the returnees, senior defender Luke Matthews was tabbed to the 2019 Preseason All-CAA Team after earning first team all-league honors last season starting every match at center back.
