Men’s Basketball Nationally-Ranked for First Time in 41 Years

PISCATAWAY – Rutgers men's basketball (14-4, 5-2) is No. 24 in today's Associated Press Poll and No. 25 in the USA Today Coaches Poll, signaling the first-time the Scarlet Knights have been nationally-ranked since placing 18th in the final AP Poll of the 1978-79 season.

"I'm proud of the progress we've made as a program and I'm really happy for the guys on our roster," said Rutgers head coach Steve Pikiell. "The ranking is a testament to the hard work and sacrifices our guys have put forth this year. We are enjoying this journey and we are excited to face the many challenges that lie ahead in the best conference in the country. Go RU!"

Off to its best home start (13-0) in program history, Rutgers men's basketball is tied for second in the Big Ten Conference standings and is three games over .500 in league play for the first time since 1998-99. On Sunday, the Scarlet Knights defeated Minnesota 64-56 at the RAC to earn their eighth win in nine games while providing Steve Pikiell the 250th victory of his head coaching career.

Rutgers is 18 in the NCAA NET rankings, 24 in the Pomeroy Ratings, 27 in the Sagarin Ratings and 34 in the ESPN Basketball Power Index (BPI) entering Wednesday evening's game at No. 19 Iowa. The Scarlet Knights remaining schedule is rated sixth nationally in difficulty per the BPI.

Rutgers women's basketball, under the leadership of Naismith Hall of Fame Coach C. Vivian Stringer, is receiving votes in the polls and Rutgers wrestling, under the direction of 2019 NCAA Championships Coach of the Year Scott Goodale, is No. 22 in the latest NWCA Coaches Poll.

Limited tickets are available for RU's six remaining homes games at the RAC. The Scarlet Knights have enjoyed four sell-outs this season, including three consecutive capacity crowds for the first time since 2004-05.
