PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Wide receiver
Bo Melton represents Rutgers football on the Paul Hornung Award Honor Roll, the Louisville Sports Commission announced Monday. The Hornung Award recognizes the most versatile players in major college football.
Melton scored two rushing touchdowns to help the Scarlet Knights to a 27-24 victory at Maryland in overtime most recently. He registered his first collegiate score on the ground on a 44-yard reverse and later added an 18-yard run on a swing pass behind the line of scrimmage. Both trips to the end zone put Rutgers in the lead.
Melton, a member of the Biletnikoff Award watch list, now has nine total touchdowns (six receiving, two rushing, one punt return) on the season to rank second in the Big Ten. The New Jersey native finished with a team-high 125 all-purpose yards (62 rushing, 45 receiving, 18 kickoff return) and is up to 42 receptions, at least three each game, and 758 all-purpose yards this year.
Melton's brother
Max Melton started on the opposite side of the ball at cornerback in the victory over the Terrapins. A Rutgers family, the Meltons will be featured on Big Ten Network's
The Journey on Wednesday at 6 p.m. Father, Gary, played wide receiver and running back on the gridiron for the Scarlet Knights (1987-91) and mother, Vicky, competed for Rutgers women's basketball (1989-93).
