Lee Leads Women’s Golf in Spring Opener

KYLE, Texas - Women's golf carded a 937 (314-309-314) to place 10th at the Texas State Invitational, played Monday and Tuesday at Plum Creek Golf Club. Playing in first position, senior Carrie-Ann Lee shot a 229 (79-74-76) to tie for 18th in the 78-player field.
Rutgers compiled 140 pars and 19 birdies on the par 72, 6,290-yard course despite challenging conditions throughout the tournament. On Tuesday, the remainder of round two was played, as well as round three. Monday featured the opening round and the majority of round two, which was halted due to darkness. Day one was contested with temperatures in the mid 50's with 15 miles-per-hour winds and periods of rain.
Lee was minus one on par five holes with six birdies to pace the Scarlet Knights in their first of six tournaments on the spring schedule. She earned the 10th top 20 finish of her career.
Sophomore Maeve Rossi joined Lee among the top 50, placing tied for 48th with a 237 (76-80-81). Junior Eun Won Park tied for 51st with a 238 (82-80-76), freshman Anna-Maria Diederichs tied for 55th with a 239 (78-80-81) and freshman Leigha Devine tied for 67th with a 246 (81-75-90).
Sam Houston State (298-297-301) and Texas-San Antonio (298-301-297) shared the team title with 896 totals. Host Texas State (294-303-302) was three strokes off the pace to place third. UTSA's Hannah Holzmann was the only individual under par, winning by six strokes with a three-under 213 (74-69-70)
Rutgers placed ahead of Southern Mississippi, UT-Rio Grande Valley, Arkansas-Little Rock, Stephen F. Austin and Marshall in the 15-team event.
The Scarlet Knights return the links at the Reynolds Lake Oconee Invitational, hosted by Mercer University, Feb. 21-23 in Macon, Ga.
