Scarlet Knights To Meet Kansas, UTSA and Host UT-Arlington

The Rutgers softball team will play five games this weekend with the Scarlet Knights facing Kansas on Friday at 1:30 p.m., host UT Arlington on Friday at 6:30 p.m. and UTSA on Saturday at 11 a.m. Saturday's second game will feature the No. 4 seeded team against the first place team at 4 p.m. followed by the No. 3 seed matching up with the No. 2 seed at 6:30 p.m. On Sunday, the third place game will start at 11 a.m with first pitch of the championship game at 1 p.m. All times listed are Eastern Standard Time.

| ABOUT THE SCARLET KNIGHTS |
- The Scarlet Knights are 5-4 on the season after going 2-2 last weekend at the Big Ten/ACC Challenge.
- Grad transfer Gabrielle Callaway is on a five-game hitting streak leading RU batting .379 with 11 hits with two doubles and a home run with a pair RBI and four runs.
- Sophomore Katie Wingert has totaled four home runs on the season, while classmate Aleah Marra leads the Scarlet Knights with four doubles on the year.
- Rookie Ashley Hitchcock is hitting .333, while inside the circle she is 3-1 on the season with a 3.45 ERA and 25 strikeouts.

- Sophomore Katie Wingert is sixth in slugging percentage (.724) and in a four-way tie for leading the league in home runs (4).
- Classmate Aleah Marra is in a five-way tie for fourth in doubles (4).
| RECAPPING LAST WEEKEND |
- •Rutgers went 2-2 in its first appearance in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge as the ACC won this year's challenge 25-19.
- The Scarlet Knights won both contests with Syracuse opening with an 11-10 nine-inning victory and following the next day with a 10-5 win.
- A 3:18 contest in the first game with the Orange was the longest in Duke Softball Stadium history.
- Duke managed to take both contests from RU as the Scarlet Knights were unable to overcome the hot-hitting Blue Devils in the first game falling 22-1 but rebounded to keep game two close with a 2-0 setback.
- Over the four-game challenge, outfielder Taylor Lane hit .600 (3-for-5) with two runs and two RBI. Additionally, Scarlet Knight first baseman Gabrielle Callaway collected a .417 batting average (5-for-12), including a home run against Syracuse, and three runs along with a team-leading 18 putouts.
- Ashley Hitchcock went 1-0 inside the circle posting a 1.91 ERA in her three appearances and struck out five ACC batters.
- In the extra-innings win over the Orange to open challenge play, freshman Payton Lincavage sent home pinch runner Cambria Keefer on a double for the winning run in the top of the ninth. Katie Wingert finished 2-for-4 with a pair of home runs to center field and four RBI and freshman Taylor Fawcett went 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. Sophomore Corah Price, who started the contest and pitched the final 1.2 innings, got the win in her first appearance of the year.
- In the second game with Syracuse, Rutgers used six hits to score seven runs in the bottom of the second to jump in front. Four Scarlet Knights - Aleah Marra, Anyssa Iliopoulos, Katie Wingert and Taylor Lane - all registered two RBI apiece. Ashley Hitchcock, in the circle for the final five innings, logged five strikeouts and no earned runs.
| ABOUT KANSAS |
- The Jayhawks enter the weekend at 2-8 overall coming off an upset win over then No. 20 James Madison, 12-2, in the final game of the Michelle Smith Clearwater Invitational. The victory snapped a six-game losing streak.
- In Kansas' 10 contests to-date, the Jayhawks have faced eight top 25 opponents, including five-straight while at the Clearwater Invitational.
- Junior outfielder Brittany Jackson leads Kansas offensively with a .321 batting average and one of five Jayhawks with a team-leading four runs. Against top 25 Northwestern and James Madison last Sunday, she went 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs.
- Inside the circle, both freshman lefty Tatum Goff and senior transfer right hander Hailey Reed are 1-3 on the year with four starts each. Tatum has appeared in six games with a 6.97 ERA having allowed 28 hits. In the upset over JMU, she had a career-best eight strikeouts in 5.0 innings of work. Reed, meanwhile has a 8.87 ERA leading all Jayhawk pitches with 23.1 innings pitched.
| ABOUT UT-ARLINGTON |
- The Mavericks are 6-3 overall are playing hosts for the second-straight weekend after going 3-1 at home last week at the Maverick Classic.
- Sophomore infielder Kimber Cortemelia was named the Sun Belt Player of the Week after batting .818 at the Maverick Classic with three home runs, three doubles, three walks, three stolen bases, eight RBI and seven runs scored. She leads UTA hitting .565 overall.
- Sophomore righty Allie Gardiner is 3-0 inside the circle for the Mavericks with a 0.68 ERA and 23 strikeouts in six appearances.
| ABOUT UTSA |
- The Roadrunners at 7-4 overall coming into the weekend are currently riding a three-game win streak following a victory over Wichita State and pair of wins over St. Louis at the Bobcat Classic.
- Rookie midfielder Taylor Medina leads the UTSA bats hitting .400 with 12 hits, including a pair of home runs, and six RBI.
- Redshirt junior infielder Madison Washington, a 2018 NFCA All-South region and Second Team All-USA honoree, is .379 from the batters box with a team-leading four home runs and 11 RBI and 10 walks.
- Freshman right hander Erika Cortez is 2-2 in the circle for the Roadrunners with a 3.02 ERA in five appearances. She has also registered 21 strikeouts in her 20.2 innings pitched.
