Men’s Golf Finishes Fifth at Rain-Shortened TPC Dorado Beach Collegiate

Jiang ties for fifth to lead the Scarlet Knights in Puerto Rico
DORADO, Puerto Rico – The final two rounds of the TPC Dorado Beach Collegiate were rained out, as Rutgers men's golf closed out the tournament fifth after it fired off a five-under-par 283 in the first and only round on Sunday in Dorado, Puerto Rico. Senior Tony Jiang tied for fifth to lead the Scarlet Knights with a four-under-par 68 in his first round, while junior Christopher Gotterup tied for 10th with his three-under-par 69 on Sunday.
No. 21 Louisville finished first with a 19-under-par 269, followed by No. 44 Kansas at 12 under (276) and UNC-Greensboro at nine under (279). Louisville's John Murphy and Kansas' Ben Sigel finished as co-champions at seven-under-par (65).
Jiang used seven birdies – tied for the second most in the 95-player field – in the first round to finish with a four-under-par 68, his lowest 18-hole total in stroke play since he carded a 65 at the Old Town Collegiate this past September. Jiang produced birdies on holes three, eight, nine, 10, 12, 14 and 17, and added eight pars to secure his impressive start.
Gotterup also enjoyed success in the opening round, as he used five birdies and 11 pars to finish with a three-under-par 69. Gotterup is the second-highest ranked individual in the field at No. 21 in the country with a 70.08 adjusted scoring average.
Sophomore Jack Doherty, who competed as an individual, tied for 15th after he produced a two-under-par 70 with six birdies and eight pars. Freshman Brendan Hansen (T/33), classmate Xavier Marcoux (T/58) and junior Oliver Whatley (T/71) rounded out the team scorecard.
