Feb 07 | Women's Golf
PISCATAWAY - Women's golf begins its spring season on Monday and Tuesday at the Texas State Invitational to be played on the Plum Creek Golf Club in Kyle, Texas. After a practice round on Sunday, the Scarlet Knights will compete against 14 programs on the par 72, 6,290-yard course.
Carrie-Ann Lee, Anna-Maria Diederichs, Maeve Rossi, Eun Won Park and Leigha Devine will contribute to the RU scorecard in the first of six tournaments on the spring slate. It will mark the collegiate debut of Devine, who competed individually as a first semester freshman at the Lady Blue Hen this past fall.
The Scarlet Knights completed the fall with a program-record Golfstat ranking of 80, while carding a program-best 299.07 scoring average. Rutgers placed fourth or better in four of its five tournaments, including a runner-up performance at the 13-team Bettie Lou Evans Invitational in Kentucky, where the team carded a program-record 281 in its final round.
In the Lone Star State, RU will share the course with host Texas State, Houston Baptist, Lamar, Little Rock, Marshall, Oral Roberts, Sam Houston State, Southern Miss, Stephen F. Austin, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Louisiana-Monroe, UT Arlington, Texas-Rio Grande Valley and Texas-San Antonio. Texas State has a Golfstat ranking of 78, while Texas-San Antonio comes in at 93.
Located just south of Austin, Plum Creek is regarded for its wildflowers, live oaks, rolling hills and area lakes. A championship course with a 74.0 rating and 125 slope, it is designed so that no two fairways touch.
Two rounds will be contested on Monday, with an additional 18 holes on Tuesday. Each day will begin via an 8:30 a.m. (CT) shotgun start. Results will be available via Golfstat.
