Softball Takes Down TAMCC in Final Game of USF Tournament

Scarlet Knights End Weekend With 5-1 Victory Over The Islanders

TAMPA, Fla. – The Rutgers softball team is leaving the sunshine state after getting a 5-1 win over Texas A&M Corpus Christi to close out the USF Tournament on Sunday morning. 

The Scarlet Knights improved to 8-11 overall and finished the USF Tournament with a 2-3 record.
 
STANDOUT STATS
THE RUNDOWN
  • The Scarlet Knights poured in four runs in the bottom of the second to take control of the game. A Payton Lincavage sac bunt put teammates Katie Wingert and Anyssa Iliopoulos into scoring position. Kiana Workman followed with a double inside the left field foul line to give RU a 2-0 lead
  • The inning continued with Taylor Lane reaching on as her bunt to short was overthrown at first. She then scored off a hard hit to short from Aleah Marra.
  • The Islanders scored in the top of the third with a Samantha Burke RBI single thru the left side.
  • Rutgers added to its lead with another run in the bottom of the fourth. Lane walked, stole a pair of bases to reach third and scored her second run of the afternoon on a sacrifice fly to center from Marra.  
KNIGHT NOTES
  • Payton Lincavage finished the USF Tournament leading RU at plate hitting .429 (6-for-14) with two doubles, one home run and two RBI.
  • Gabrielle Callaway has reached base safely in the last 15 consecutive contests and finished Sunday 1-for-3. She also had two RBI during the weekend tournament.
  • Aleah Marra collected a pair of runs batted in for the third time this season, while it was Kiana Workman's first multiple RBI outing as a Scarlet Knight.
  • Taylor Lane's two runs scored were a career-high after previous scoring one run in contests with ETSU, Kansas and Syracuse twice.
  • Inside the circle, Ashley Hitchcock led the staff with 14 strikeouts in four appearances and 12.2 innings of work.
