MORGANTOWN, W. Va. – Rutgers gymnastics registered its second-highest mark of the season with a 195.300 at a tri-meet with host West Virginia and Pittsburgh. The Scarlet Knights shined on floor with a season-best team score of 49.250 in the event.
Opening the night on beam, Rutgers came out strong as freshman
Hannah Joyner and senior
Erin McLachlan tied for second place with identical scores of 9.875. Sophomore
Kiera Doherty-Herwitz matched her career-high of 9.825, while sophomore
Sage Littlejohn returned to lineup with her own career-best of 9.775. Freshman
Jenna Ferguson contributed a 9.750 to round out the team score of 49.100.
The Scarlet Knights carried the early momentum to floor, where junior
Belle Huang earned a 9.900 for second place in the event. Freshman
Jordyn Duffield, Ferguson, and Joyner all executed beautiful routines as well to each score a 9.850. It marked the career-best for all three on floor. Senior
Shannon Farrell added a 9.800, also a career-high, to give RU its best team score of the season at 49.250.
On vault, senior
Kaitlyn Hall led the way with a 9.825, marking her fifth straight meet hitting a 9.825 or higher. Junior
Toni Williams followed with a 9.800, while Joyner produced a 9.775. Farrell and Huang each added a 9.750 to contribute to team score of 48.900.
RU closed the meet on bars, where Joyner recorded a career-best mark of 9.825. Farrell's routine earned her a 9.825 as well to help boast the team's score of 48.050.
Joyner finished first in the all-around with a score of 39.325, finishing second on beam (9.875) and third on bars (9.825) Huang followed in second with a 38.850.
Rutgers returns home on Friday, March 6 to host a quad meet at the College Avenue Gym. The meet will feature West Chester, Southern Connecticut State and Cornell.
