What to Know
• Eight RU wrestlers will make their Big Ten Championship debuts on Saturday, as only Pagano and Michael VanBrill (157) have previously competed in the country's toughest conference postseason event. The group includes two true freshman and three redshirt freshman.
• Rutgers enjoyed an historic showing at last year's Big Tens, as Anthony Ashnault (149) and Nick Suriano (133) secured individual titles in Minneapolis. It gave the Scarlet Knights two individual titles at the same conference tournament since RU joined the historic wrestling league in 2014-15.
• Rutgers closed out its dual season with a 10-7 record and No. 25 ranking in the final NWCA Coaches' Poll. It marks the ninth time the program has finished ranked in the coaches' poll under head coach Scott Goodale.
• Rutgers has filled four or more automatic bids allotted to the conference since 2015, as five Scarlet Knights secured AQ spots at last year's championships. RU is looking to send five or more competitors to nationals for the sixth consecutive season, with this year's NCAA tournament held from March 19-21 at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.
After all of the conference tournaments have concluded, the NCAA Division I Wrestling Committee will meet in-person to select the remaining 47 at-large qualifiers, which will be announced on March 10, while brackets and seeding will be announced on NCAA.com at 6 p.m. on March 11. All weight classes will consist of 33 wrestlers. The at-large selections will be made based on the following criteria: head-to-head competition; quality wins; coaches' ranking; results against common opponents; RPI; qualifying event placement; and winning percentage.
