Brandin Knight to be Inducted into Pitt Athletics Hall of Fame
May 14 | Men's Basketball
PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Rutgers men's basketball assistant coach Brandin Knight will be inducted into the Pitt Athletics Hall of Fame as part of their 2020 Class. The 2020 class will receive induction on Friday, October 16th, at Heinz Field.
"This is a great honor," Knight said. "I'm humbled just to be considered with other names that will be honored. It's a culmination of my success that I had with my teammates. A lot of my success was because I was a part of a lot of great teams and had the opportunity to be with some great people. Those relationships will last for a lifetime"
The current Rutgers basketball assistant coach played at Pitt from 1999-2003. Knight was a two-time All-American and was the Big East's Co-Most Valuable Player and league's Most Improved Player following his junior season. Knight still holds Pitt records for career assists (785), career assist average (6.2 apg.), career steals (298), season 3-point field goal attempts (261), season minutes played (1,284 in 2001-02) and consecutive games played with at least one assist (91 from 2000-03). Knight's No. 20 jersey was retired by the program in 2009. Over his four years, Knight led Pitt to two consecutive Big East regular-season titles (2001-02 and 2002-03), two NCAA Sweet 16 appearances (2002 and 2003), the program's first Big East Tournament title (2003) and an 89-40 (.690) four-year record.
An East Orange, New Jersey native, Knight began his coaching career at Pitt before returning to his home state to join Steve Pikiell's staff in 2016. With Knight on staff, the program has continually improved. Last season, the Scarlet Knights posted their first winning season in 14 years with a 20-11 record. It was the program's first 20-win regular season in 37 years. The team had 18 regular season home wins, the most in the nation and a program record.
Knight has been instrumental to the program's success. One of college basketball's rising coaches, Knight has played an instrumental role in recruiting, game planning and opponent scouting, and is key in the development of the Scarlet Knights' backcourt and perimeter players.
