Caleb McConnell: X-Factor
Jun 24 | Men's Basketball
Caleb McConnell brings a unique skill set to the Rutgers lineup. The Scarlet Knights' Swiss Army knife, the 6-7 McConnell is a versatile weapon for RU. With the ability to play and defend a multitude of positions from guard to forward, McConnell provides immense value in a multitude of ways.
A product of Jacksonville, McConnell completed his high school basketball career at the Spire Academy in Ohio. As a freshman, McConnell got his feet wet at the collegiate level, coming on strong down the stretch. After a breakout performance with 25 points at Illinois, he averaged 11.8 points over the final four games of the season.
Last season, the sophomore broke into the starting lineup and excelled. He started 21 games,, averaging 6.7 points and 3.7 rebounds with 25 steals, shooting 41.1 percent from the field and team-best 79.2 percent from the free throw line. McConnell had a number of standout performances, with a season-high 20 points on 8-8 shooting with a career-high five assists in win at Nebraska, first career double-double in win over Minnesota, and a perfect 12-12 at free throw line against Purdue.

A man of many hair styles, his play does the talking once the ball is tipped. A ferocious rebounder, adept passer, strong defender and quality scorer, McConnell's strengths aid his club on both ends of the court.

Fun fact: @caleb_mcco has led us in FT % in each of our previous two seasons.
Interestingly enough, he shot exactly 79.2% in both years.
Calm, cool, collected. Many more clutch free throws and plays in his future. pic.twitter.com/2ZZDEZlvDt
