PISCATAWAY, N.J. – 2020 graduate Ana Cortes from Rutgers women's golf has been named an Arthur Ash Jr. Sports Scholar, announced by the publication. A native of Bogota, Colombia, Cortes graduated with honors this past May with her bachelor's degree in finance and management.
Inspired by tennis legend Arthur Ashe, Jr.'s commitment to education as well as his love for the game of tennis, the award recognizes each recipient's athletic ability and academic performance, as well as their commitment to community service and student leadership.
A three-time Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) Division I All-America Scholar and three-time Big Ten Distinguished Scholar, Cortes produced a 3.70 cumulative GPA during her time "On the Banks". Cortes, who served as a team co-captain this past season, also helped the program earn recognition as one of the nation's top 25 teams in academic performance by the WGCA for a fourth consecutive campaign under head coach Kari Williams.
Cortes has also contributed to the team's national recognition by the NCAA, as the program earned public recognition for its perfect 1,000 multi-year Academic Progress Rate (APR) score in the latest report from the organization. Since compilation of data began in 2004-05, Rutgers has garnered public recognition for its APR score nine times and has produced a perfect 1,000 the past seven seasons.
Cortes appeared in 29 tournaments with 82 rounds played during her collegiate career, which included three career appearances at the Big Ten Championship. Cortes finished her senior season in 2019-20 with a career-low 76.11 scoring average during her nine appearances.
