Volleyball Hosts Indiana in Home Opening Series

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - The Rutgers women's volleyball team opens the home portion of its 2021 spring schedule with two matches versus Indiana on Friday and Saturday. Both games are slated for first serve at 2 p.m. at the College Avenue Gym.
The Scarlet Knights traves to top-ranked Wisconsin for a pair of games on Friday, Feb. 5 at 7 p.m. (ET) and Saturday, Feb. 6 at 5 p.m. (ET).

| WELCOME TO THE SPRING SEASON |
- The Rutgers women's volleyball team will play the first two-games of an 11-game home schedule. The 2021 spring schedule includes 22 games with 11 home and 11 away games.
- The Scarlet Knights are playing a Big Ten only schedule which features six opponents either ranked or receiving votes in this week's AVCA Poll.
| ABOUT THE SCARLET KNIGHTS |
- Rutgers fell to Northwestern on opening weekend with the Wildcats taking both games in the series 3-0.
- Senior Beka Kojadinovic led the Rutgers attack with 15 total kills and a .306 hitting percentage.
- Right behind her on the stat sheet is fellow classmate Kamila Cieslik with 14 swings against the Wildcats.
- Junior setter Inna Balyko racked up 33 assists and is currently ninth in the Big Ten at 5.50 a/s. She needs 22 more assists to move up to sixth on the all-time leaders chart.
- Defensively, freshman Tina Grkovic made her Scarlet Knight debut accumulating a team-leading five blocks, while fellow rookie Madyson Chitty registered 18 digs and averaged 3.00 d/s.
| SCOUTING INDIANA |
- Indiana comes to the College Ave Gym after dropping its opening weekend series in hosting No. 5 Nebraska falling 22-25, 20-25, 17-25 on Friday and 21-25, 16-25, 19-25 on Saturday.
- The Hoosiers are a youthful team comprised of 12 freshmen and sophomores with just one senior on its 16-woman roster.
- Freshman Tommi Stockham leads the Hoosier offense with 3.00 k/s while junior Breana Edwards is averaging 2.33 k/s. Senior Brooke Westbeld and sophomore Emily Fitzner, meanwhile, are responsible for 3.82 a/s and 3.17 a/s respectively.
- On defense, sophomore Haley Armstrong is contributing3.33 d/s and freshman Savannah Kjolhede has racked up four total blocks while also leading the team with a trio of aces.
| A LOOK AT THE SIDELINE |
- Last weekend at Northwestern marked the debut of first-year head coach Caitlin Schweihofer who took over the program after serving as head coach at Northeastern and a five-year stint at La Salle, where she earned 2018 Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year honors.
- Rutgers returns five Scarlet Knights from the 2019 season along with seven newcomers. Four freshman and three transfers comprise the newest Scarlet Knights.
- The 2019 Scarlet Knights collected the most wins in conference play since joining the Big Ten in 2014 and earned its first Big Ten road sweep.
