PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Rutgers men's lacrosse was ranked as the No. 19 team in the nation in the initial preseason poll released by US Lacrosse Magazine on Tuesday.
The Scarlet Knights return a talented core of players. Following the shortened 2020 campaign, RU returns its top seven scorers. That group is highlighted by two returning captains and Scholar All-Americans in Adam Charalambides and Kieran Mullins. Charalambides has scored 105 goals and added 35 assists for 140 points in 37 career games, ranking him 10th all-time in goals at Rutgers. Alongside him, Mullins has scored 99 goals and added 80 assists for 179 points in 47 games. That duo is joined by fellow captain Ryan Gallagher, who excelled in the teams last full season in 2019, finishing second on the team in assists and third in goals and points while being named to the 2019 Big Ten All-Tournament Team.
The offense will be buoyed by the addition of newcomer Connor Kirst, who was named a Preseason All-American this season. He comes in as a graduate transfer after playing in 52 games at Villanova over the past four years, where he scored 84 goals and added 42 assists for 126 career points.
On the defensive side of the ball, Rutgers' returns captain Garrett Bullett to anchor the close defense. Bullett was a preseason All-Big Ten selection and had 11 ground balls and six caused turnovers in the shortened season.
The program also moves into the Gary and Barbara Rodkin Academic Success Center this month in preparation for the upcoming season. The brand new, state of the art facility will feature a new locker room, film room, academic services, and many more features for the team to utilize.
