Volleyball Wraps Up RAC Play With Setback To Maryland

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers volleyball fell to Maryland, 3-0 (25-19, 25-15, 25-12) to round out the season series with the Terps and wrap up its final home game at the RAC before heading back to the College Ave Gym for the last four home games of the 2021 fall season.

STANDOUT STATS

Fifth-year senior Beka Kojadinovic led Rutgers with seven kills, while classmate Kamila Cieslik contributed six swings for points.
Senior Inna Balyko was just shy of a double-double with 21 assists and nine digs.
Both Balyko and Kojadinovic served up a pair of aces.
Sophomore Madyson Chitty led the defense with 11 digs

KEY MOMENTS

Set 1 (25-19) | Maryland, the nation's top team in blocks, only had one rejection in the opening frame, while Beka Kojadinovic contributed four of her kills in the first set. Rutgers went ahead 10-4 off one of Inna Balyko's aces when the Terps used a 4-0 burst and 3-0 run en route to knotting the score at 15-15. After a Shea McNamara swing tied the set up at 16-16, the visitors rattled off seven unanswered to stay in front.
Set 2 (25-15) | The Terps got eight early unanswered points to go up 9-2 and never looked back. Maryland hit a game-best .391 in the set and managed 11 block assists, while Rutgers was led by four kills and four digs from Kamila Cieslik.
Set 3 (25-12) | Tina Grkovic came off the bench to pull RU within a point at 7-6, but Maryland responded with a 6-0 run to keep the lead going. Grkovic stopped the Terp surge with another kill, but Maryland outscored RU 7-2 to follow to reach 20 and maintain its advantage.

The Rutgers volleyball team continues its homestand but is back at the College Ave Gym.
The Scarlet Knights host Michigan State on Friday, Nov. 5 at 7 p.m. and No. 12 Purdue on Sunday, Nov. 7 at 1 p.m.
Note: The Purdue contest was moved to Sunday from its original Saturday date due to the Rutgers-Wisconsin football game set for kickoff at 3:30 p.m.

Fans can enter with bags that are clear plastic, vinyl, or PVC and approximately 12″ x 6″ x 12″, or one-gallon clear plastic bags or similar, and small clutch bags, approximately the size of a hand, can be taken into athletic venues.
