ABOUT THE SCARLET KNIGHTS
- The Scarlet Knights have opened the Big Ten slate with a tough schedule meeting three Top 25 programs, including two among the top five, in their first four games. Last time at home, RU dropped back-to-back contests with top 25 foes in then-No. 20 Penn State and No. 2 Wisconsin and is looking to rebound after losses on the road at Northwestern and then-No. 4 Purdue last weekend. Rutgers went 8-3 in nonconference action for its best record since 2012 capturing five sweeps along the way
- Fifth-year senior Beka Kojadinovic reached a major milestone last weekend becoming the rally-era leader in aces with 96 in her career "On The Banks". She needs 22 more to crack Rutgers' all-time top 10 list. Last season she served up 10 aces against Michigan State setting a Rutgers record and tying for the second-most in a game in Big Ten history. Additionally, last weekend she also moved into the rally-era top 10 with 170 career block assists.
- Kojadinovic also continues to lead the attack averaging 3.06 kills per set with a team-leading 20 aces. Her 0.40 aces per set land her seventh in the conference.
- Shealyn McNamara, meanwhile, has been steadfast on both the offense and defense this season. Last weekend, she became the second Scarlet Knight with over 100 kills this season last weekend and is hitting .304 on the year. Defensively, she leads Rutgers and ranks ninth in the Big Ten with 1.29 blocks per set. She has totaled 66 blocks on the season and has led RU in the category in all but four games. In her two seasons "On The Banks", she is currently second among career rally-era stats at 1.03 blocks per set. Against the Wildcats last Friday, McNamara totaled eight blocks including a career-high three solo rejections.
- Senior Inna Balyko, RU's first-ever First Team All-Big Ten selection who is fifth all-time and second in the rally era in assists, is averaging 9.18 helpers per frame and surpassed the 3,000 career assist mark two weeks ago in RU's matchup with the Badgers.
- Sophomore Madyson Chitty is collecting 3.86 digs per set for the defense and in just 13 games into her second season "On The Banks" is fourth in the rally era in digs per set. She is also 10th in the category in the Big Ten.
SCOUTING INDIANA
- The Hoosiers enter the RAC at 7-9 overall and 1-3 in Big Ten play and have taken on back-to-back-to-back Top 25 teams. After opening the year with a sweep of Michigan State, Indiana was swept by then-No. 7 Purdue and then-No. 8 Ohio State and fell most recently against then-No. 14 Penn State last Saturday, 3-1
- Offensively, Indiana is led by Breana Edward at 3.30 kills per set, while Kaley Rammelsburg is swinging a league seventh-best .394 on the year with 2.15 kills per frame. Brooke Westbeld has been directing the attack with 7.52 assists per set. At the service line, Camryn Haworth has collected 22 aces and is sixth in the Big Ten averaging 0.41 per set.
- On defense, Paula Cerame is fifth in the conference digging the ball up an average of 4.30 times per set, while Savannah Kjolhede leads the Hoosiers with 52 blocks averaging 0.87 per set.
SCOUTING NEBRASKA
- The No. 10 Cornhuskers enter the weekend joining No. 13 Penn State as the only league teams without a conference loss at 10-3 overall and 4-0 in Big Ten action. Nebraska will take on Penn State in a battle for first place on Friday before making their way to the RAC on Sunday. All three Cornhusker setbacks came at the hands of Top 25 programs in a five-set loss at home to No. 20 Utah, a sweep in Lincoln by No. 5 Louisville and a 3-1 loss at No. 16 Stanford.
- Kayla Caffey is among the Big Ten's top hitting with a .399 attack percentage putting away 2.35 kills per set. Also back on the attack is Lauren Stivrins, who made her season debut last weekend, and is averaging a team-leading 3.00 kills per set. Madi Kubik is also putting away 2.80 kills per set. Nicklin Hames, meanwhile, is posting 10.13 helpers per set and is ninth among the conference's setters in the category. Lexi Sun delivers from the service line with 13 aces to place her name eighth in the league at 0.38 per set.
- At the net, Callie Schwarzenbach has totaled 53 rejections and is eighth on the block in the Big Ten at 1.33 per set. Lexi Rodriguez also aids the defense to the tune of 3.79 digs per set.
