Five from Field Hockey Named All-Region

Burns, Glatz, Larmour named First Team, Redlingshoefer and Romano named Second Team

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Rutgers field hockey had five players named All-Region on Monday, tying a program record. Captains Kerrie Burns, Katie Larmour and Gianna Glatz were all named First Team All Mid-Atlantic Region, while Milena Redlingshoefer and Liz Romano were each named Second Team All Mid-Atlantic Region. 

This marked the third straight season that RU had three First Team All-Region selections. It was just the second time in program history that five Scarlet Knights were named All-Region in the same season, and the first time since 1986. 

Burns was named All-Region for the second straight season and garners First Team All-Region honors for the first time. The Portadown, Northern Ireland native was previously recognized as Second Team All-Big Ten, and was named both to the Big Ten All-Tournament Team and was the Big Ten Tournament MVP. The midfielder earned a Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week accolade, had two defensive saves and also contributed offensively with four goals and three assists for a career-best 11 points. She posted 12 goals and 12 assists in her career. 

Larmour earned her fourth career All-Region selection, and her third consecutive First Team All-Region selection. The Belfast, Northern Ireland native scored one goal and added five assists while being named First Team All-Big Ten. The midfielder was named to the NFHCA Senior Team in recognition of her six years 'On the Banks', during whch time she played in 86 career games, 83 of them start and posted 17 goals (six game-winning goals) and 18 assists for 52 career points. 

Glatz earned her fourth consecutive First Team All-Region selection. The top goalkeeper in the nation set statistical bests with a 0.93 goals-against-average and .796 save percentage this season en route to Big Ten Co-Player of the Year and First Team All-Big Ten awards. She was also named to the NFHCA Senior Team, recognizing her overall career. She started 90 games over five years in goal, playing nearly 5700 minutes in the goal and posting a 1.40 goals-against-average (fourth all-time at RU). The Medford, N.J. native had a lifetime .749 save percentage with 22 shutouts while posting a career record of 57-33.

Redlingshoefer was named All-Region for the second straight season. The Munich, Germany native was named Second Team All-Big Ten after leading RU with a team-best eight goals, 12 assists and 28 points. Her 12 assists were fifth most in a single-season in program history, and she reached sixth all-time in program history in assits (20) and 12th all-time at RU in points (53). 

Romano earns All-Region accolades for the first time in her career. The Scarlet Knights starting center back anchored the RU backline as RU allowed just 0.95 goals-per-game, sixth best in the nation. The New Vernon, N.J. native also posted two goals and two assists, tallying a key goal in Rutgers' NCAA Tournament win over Delaware. In two years as a Scarlet Knight, Romano started all 38 of her games at back, keying the defense and also scoring seven goals with two assists. 

The efforts of RU's record-tying five all-region selections keyed a historic season for the program. Rutgers set records with 19 wins, 13 ranked wins, six Big Ten Conference wins and five top-10 wins. The Scarlet Knights won the Big Ten Tournament championship, the first Big Ten Tournament championship for any Rutgers athletics program. That title propeled RU into the NCAA Tournament for the fourth time in program history, doing so as the No. 1 overall seed. The team then won its First Round NCAA game, the victory representing RU's first NCAA Tournament victory since 1986.
