Field Hockey Recognized in All-Big Ten Awards

Gianna Glatz Big Ten Co-Player of the Year, Glatz and Katie Larmour First Team, Kerrie Burns and Milena Redlingshoefer Second Team, Gianna Mancini Sportsmanship Award

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - No. 3 Rutgers field hockey was well recognized in the presentation of the All-Big Ten awards on Wednesday. Gianna Glatz was named Big Ten Co-Player of the Year. Glatz and Katie Larmour were named First Team All-Big Ten, while Kerrie Burns and Milena Redlingshoefer were named Second Team All-Big Ten. Gianna Mancini was the team's honoree of the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award.

Glatz's Co-Player of the Year award marks the first time a RU field hockey student-athlete earned a major Big Ten award and first major all-conference award since 2012, when Alyssa Bull was named BIG EAST Rookie of the Year.

This marked the second straight season that RU had four All-Big Ten selections and fourth straight time with two First Team selections. All four student-athletes earned All-Big Ten awards last season. It is Glatz's fourth straight First Team All-Big Ten selection, Larmour's third straight time on the First Team, and the second All-Big Ten honor for Burns and Redlingshoefer.

"We are incredibly proud to have these experienced student-athletes recognized by the Big Ten Conference for their play this season," head coach Meredith Civico said. "The team feeds off this group of players, and they have been a big part of our success this season."

Glatz, one of the best goalkeepers in the nation, is having the best statistical year of her storied career. The Medford, N.J. native holds career-bests in goals-against-average (0.93) and save percentage (.803). She is among the top-10 in the nation in both categories, along with goalie win-loss percentage. Glatz has allowed just 15 goals in 16 games, notching six shutouts. She currently has 347 saves, fifth all-time in RU history.

"Gianna Glatz is so focused and determined," Civico said. "She's put so much time and energy into perfecting her craft as a goalkeeper. She's a tremendous leader and we are so lucky to have her as a Scarlet Knight."

Larmour has been a foundational piece for RU in the midfield. The Belfast, Northern Ireland native has added a goal and three assists to her ledger this year. The team captain and returning All-American has played in over 1,000 minutes in the midfield this year, increasing her career totals to 17 goals and 16 assists.

"Katie Larmour is so smart. She has a great presence on the field and is a leader in everything she does," Civico explained. "She understands the game so well, has exceptional technical skill, and is so effective in how she commands the field."

Burns is a key piece for the Scarlet Knights, anchoring the team from her defensive midfield position. The Portadown, Northern Ireland has also set a new career-best with 11 points, matching her career-high with four goals and notching three assists. A starter in 86 games for the Scarlet Knights over the past five seasons, she has totaled 12 goals and 12 assists for 36 points.

"Kerrie Burns is an unsung hero for us," Civico said. "She's a defender to her core, she's so gritty, so tough, and will do whatever it takes to make sure no one threatens our goal. She is a huge part of why we are where we are as a program."

Redlingshoefer leads the team in scoring, posting six goals, nine assists and 21 points. The Munich, Germany native has been a weapon from the penalty stroke, shooting 5-of-5 from the dot while totaling five game-winning goals. The returning All-American is eighth all-time in program history with 20 career assists.

"Milena Redlingshoefer is an incredible team player," Civico said. "She's very versatile in her position and is so technically gifted. Whether defending or attacking, she contributes all over the field. Her goals and assists are vital to our play."

Mancini is a fifth-year senior for the Scarlet Knights. The Medford, N.J. native has scored four goals and added an assist for nine points, her most since the 2017 season. The midfielder has started 14 games this year and 34 in her career over 83 total games played. She is a three-time Academic All-Big Ten selection and Big Ten Distinguished Scholar.

"Gianna Mancini is awesome - both as a player and person," Civico said. "She is such an honest, intelligent player who is great on the ball. For her, the team is always first and that mentality impacts all those around her."

Rutgers, currently No. 2 nationally in the RPI and No. 3 in the Coaches Poll, posted a 15-3 overall record in the regular season, tying the 1986 team for most wins ever in RU program history. The Scarlet Knights posted their most conference wins since joining the league in 2014-15. The team also set program records with 10 ranked wins, four top-10 wins and seven ranked road wins.

Rutgers will host the Big Ten Tournament for the first time since joining the league. The team earned the No. 2 seed in the bracket, a program best, and will face No. 7 seed Indiana on Thursday at 2 p.m.
