Jacobs Claims Singles Victory at Michigan State

EAST LANSING, MICH. – Rutgers tennis concluded its first weekend of Big Ten dual action at Michigan State on Sunday afternoon. Senior Maya Jacobs claimed a victory at the No. 1 singles spot, as the Spartans edged out the doubles point and the remaining singles for the win.
Jacobs opened her match up against MSU's Mary Lewis with a 6-3 win in the first set before a 6-3 setback in the next. She went on to battle to a 10-8 tiebreaker for the victory.
In her second match as a Scarlet Knight, freshman Chloe Brown rallied at the No. 5 singles spot. After dropping the first set, 6-1, she bounced back with a 6-3 win the next. However, her opponent, Nicole Stephens, edged out the win with a 6-3 victory in the third.
Freshmen Daira Cardenas made her collegiate debut in the No. 6 singles position for RU, as all three newcomers joined the lineup on Sunday.
Up next, Rutgers returns home to host Penn State on Friday, Feb. 19 and Ohio State on Sunday, Feb. 21.
