Rossi, Tounalom Top 10 after First Day of Texas State Invitational
Feb 08 | Women's Golf
KYLE, Texas – Maeve Rossi and Manon Tounalom are both within the top 10 of the leaderboard after day one of the Texas State Invitational in Kyle, Texas. As a team, Rutgers women's golf is sixth among the 15-school field at the Plum Creek Golf Course. After a delayed start due to fog Monday morning, the second round was halted due to darkness and will resume Tuesday morning.
"it was exciting to be back out competing again," said head coach Kari Williams. I saw some great things out on the course today and a few areas that we can tighten up tomorrow. Maeve and Manon played very consistently for us and rolled in some great putts. We have the opportunity to go back out and finish the event strong tomorrow."
Rossi and Tounalom are tied for seventh in the 79-player field with even scorecards through 27 holes. Rossi fired off a two-under-par 70 in the first round with five birdies, while Tounalom carded a one-under-par 71 with birdies on holes seven, nine and 16. Both are eleven shots off tournament leader Lorena Tseng (Tulsa) at minus 11.
"I tried to stay focused today on each shot and it helped me manage myself around the course," Rossi said. "Hopefully I can keep the momentum going tomorrow and we can move up the leaderboard."
In her first appearance as a Scarlet Knight, Sun Hwang is tied for 25th at three over after she produced a one-over-par 73 with four birdies in the first round. Anna-Maria Diederichs and Rikke Nordvik are tied for 60th and 75th, respectively.
The second round will continue Tuesday morning with a 9:15 shotgun start and follows with the third and final round.
