Geo Baker Named Big Ten Player of the Week
Mar 01 | Men's Basketball
PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Following a standout performance against Indiana on Senior Night, Geo Baker was named Big Ten Player of the Week on Monday. It marked the first time since joining the league that Rutgers earned a Men's Basketball Player of the Week award. Geo was previously named Big Ten Freshman of the week on December 18, 2017.
Baker led the Scarlet Knights to a comeback victory over Indiana with a stat line that had not been done by any player in Division I college basketball since 2017: 20 points, 10 assists, five rebounds, two blocks and a steal, making six three-pointers. The Derry, N.H. native is the only player in college basketball this season to have six three-pointers and 10 assists in the same game.
Baker had his second career double-double, and first since 2017, while producing season-highs in points, assists and three-pointers. Baker's 10 assists and six three-pointers were the most ever by a RU player in a regulation Big Ten game, as he tied his career-high with the six three-pointers. It was Baker's 10th game this season scoring in double-figures, and seventh time in the past nine games.
After falling into an early deficit, Baker sparked RU to a ferocious comeback, as Rutgers outscored Indiana 62-27 to turn a 15-point deficit into a 20-point advantage and secure the team's ninth conference win of the season. In that contest, Geo Baker moved into 21st place all-time at Rutgers in points and sixth all-time in assists. He is also seventh all-time in three-pointers and ninth in steals.
