Tennis Tops Indiana 4-3 on the Road

Bloomington, Ind. - Rutgers tennis defeated Indiana by a score of 4-3 on Saturday afternoon on the road. The Scarlet Knights claimed the doubles point and three singles victory for the win.
"We knew this would be a close match. Our team stepped up and played aggressively when it counted," said Head Coach Hilary Ritchie
"Today's win was just a result of each of us leaving it all out there on the court," said redshirt-senior Jaci Cochrane. "The past year has been extra challenging and we've had to work harder and be tougher than ever so we've all decided to put that hard work into play. Thankfully, today all of that hard work and adversity all paid off."
Rutgers captured the doubles point over Indiana to move to an early 1-0 lead. Cochrane and freshman Daira Cardenas picked up a 6-3 win at the No. 3 spot. The duo of junior Tess Fisher and freshman Alisa Prinyarux cinched the doubles point in an exciting tiebreaker (7-4) to win at the No. 2 spot.
Moving into singles, IU edged out the first singles win before junior Sydney Kaplan picked up a singles win in straight sets 6-3, 6-3, to keep RU in front 2-1. It marked her second Big Ten win this season. The Hoosiers recorded another singles win to tie it 2-2.
Fisher, earning her second Big Ten win of the season, fought her way to a three-set victory, winning 6-4 in a decisive third set to give the Scarlet Knights a 3-2 advantage. IU came back to even the match 3-3 with a three-set singles win.
Cochrane gave Rutgers the victory with a three-set win 6-2, 5-7, 6-2. After battling to a 6-2 victory in the first set, Cochrane rallied and came back in the third to claim her second Big Ten win of the year.
Up next, Rutgers continues on the road with a trip to Purdue on Sunday, March 28.
