Cardenas Claims Singles Win in 4-1 Loss at Purdue

WEST LAFAYETTE, IND. – Rutgers tennis fell to Purdue by a score of 4-1 on Sunday afternoon in West Lafayette. Freshman Daira Cardenas recorded a singles victory for the Scarlet Knights. However, the Boilermakers edged out the team doubles point and three singles victories for the win.
In doubles play, Purdue used a 6-2 win at the No. 3 spot. Junior Tess Fisher and freshman Alisa Prinyarux countered with a 7-5 victory at the No. 2 position. It marked the fifth doubles win of the year for the pair.
Although, senior Maya Jacobs and freshman Chloe Brown battled at No. 1 doubles spot, the Boilermakers outlasted the duo for a 7-5 win and a 1-0 team advantage in the match.
Purdue picked up the first singles win to extend its lead. Cardenas followed by cruising to a 6-1, 6-1 win at the No. 6 singles spot, cutting into the margin 2-1. The win marked the second Big Ten singles win for Cardenas.
The Boilermakers would go on to clinch the match with two more singles victories.
