PISCATAWAY, N.J. – For the fifth straight week, Rutgers women's soccer is ranked in the Top 25 nationally. The Scarlet Knights come in at No. 24 in the fifth installment of the 2021 spring poll by United Soccer Coaches.
Â
Rutgers is 6-2-2 in Big Ten matches this year, including a flawless mark of 5-0 at home this season. The team owns four shutouts, boasting a goals against average of 0.67 that ranks second in the Big Ten.
Â
In the 0-0, double-overtime draw at Nebraska, the Scarlet Knights led in shots (22-10), shots on goal (10-4), and corner kicks (9-0). Junior
Meagan McClelland recorded four saves to pick up 24th clean sheet of her career. She moved into sole ownership of fourth on the Rutgers career charts.
Â
Despite holding a 13-4 advantage in shots and 7-1 in shots on goal at Wisconsin, RU suffered just its second setback of the season in the windy, 1-0 contest. The Scarlet Knights have held all 10 Big Ten opponents to just single-digit shots on goal, as Wisconsin was held to the one shot on goal. Additionally, the backline has held seven of 10 opponents to single-digit shots overall.
Â
On the offensive side, a total of 10 different Scarlet Knights have contributed to scoring this year with seven recording at least one goal. Senior forward
Amirah Ali, a 2020-21 MAC Hermann Trophy Award and Senior CLASS Award candidate, leads the team with five goals this year.
Â
Rutgers concludes the regular season this Saturday, April 3 on the road at Michigan. Start time is set for 1 p.m. ET in Ann Arbor.
