
Cardenas and Kaplan Capture Singles Wins Over Nebraska

EAST BRUNSWICK, N.J. – Rutgers tennis dropped its match to Nebraska by a score of 5-2 on Sunday afternoon at the East Brunswick Racquet Club. Freshman Daira Cardenas and junior Sydney Kaplan claimed singles wins for RU.
The Scarlet Knights honored its three graduating seniors Jaci Cochrane, Isabelle Da Silva, and Maya Jacobs, and graduate Kat Muzik in a pre-match Senior Day Ceremony.
"Even though we lost I thought the energy and effort today throughout the whole team, especially with our senior class, was just tremendous," said Head Coach Hilary Ritchie. "They are ready to compete next weekend again and bring this energy everyday to practice. We still have some good things ahead."
Nebraska moved to an early lead by claiming the team doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 spots.
Freshman Daira Cardenas recorded a 6-4, 6-2 win at the No. 6 spot for Rutgers, marking her second Big Ten victory of the season.
Junior Sydney Kaplan rallied for a win a the No. 3 spot, falling in the first 7-6 (3) before battling back with a score of 6-4 in the next set. In the deciding set, Kaplan secured a 10-8 victory for her second Big Ten singles win of the year.
Up next, Rutgers concludes the regular season with a trip to Maryland on Saturday, April 17.
