Joyner Competes at NCAA Championships on Beam Friday
Apr 14 | Women's Gymnastics
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Sophomore Hannah Joyner of Rutgers gymnastics is set to compete at the 2021 NCAA Championships this Friday, April 16 in Forth Worth, Texas. Joyner advanced to Nationals on beam and will compete in Semifinal II at 6 p.m. ET on ESPN2.
Joyner, the school record holder in the event, finished second overall in the Morgantown Regional with a 9.925. As the first Scarlet Knight to post above a 9.9 at an NCAA Regional, Joyner qualified as the highest individual finisher not on an advancing team.
The Waldorf, Maryland, native has eclipsed 9.9 on beam six times this year and 13 times in her career, standing as RU's record holder in overall career 9.9s. The two-time First Team All-Big Ten Selection also reached 9.9 at the Big Ten Championships in March, placing third in the event to help lift her to a third-place finish in the all-around. Earlier in March, she registered a program-record 9.950 in a quad-meet at Ohio State, earning the event title at the competition.
Joyner becomes the third individual qualifier to advance to Nationals in Rutgers gymnastics history. She joins former Scarlet Knights Courtney Turner (floor) and Alexis Gunzleman (all-around) to qualify for Nationals. The sophomore continues to make history, as she also became the first Scarlet Knight to reach 9.9 on all events with new career highs of 9.9 on vault and floor this season.
