Game Recap: Field Hockey |

No. 8 Field Hockey Falls to No. 5 Northwestern in the Big Ten Quarterfinals

IOWA CITY, Iowa - No. 8 Rutgers field hockey fell 2-1 to No. 5 Northwestern in the Big Ten Tournament quarterfinals on Wednesday night. The game was hosted at Iowa's Grant Field. Bridy Molyneaux recorded a goal for RU, while Gianna Glatz made four saves.

Rutgers outshot Northwestern 10-6 in the game. The Scarlet Knights had a 7-3 advantage in corners.

Northwestern scored first, just over five minutes into the contest. The Wildcats earn a trio of early penalty corners. On the third corner, Northwestern took a shot from the top, and it was tipped in front of the net and into the goal.

Early in the second quarter, Rutgers scored an equalizer. Katie Larmour carried the ball down the right side, sending into the circle. Kassidy Shetler shuffled the ball along to the back post, where Molyneaux was stationed. The Fair Haven, N.J. native sent the ball home to tie the game at 1-1. Behind that goal and four first half saves from Glatz, the score was even at halftime.

Early in the third quarter, RU earned a penalty corner, but the shot was saved. Northwestern pushed the ball up the field and took advantage of their numbers in transition to score and take a 2-1 lead.

The Scarlet Knights continued to keep pressure on, earning a series of three straight penalty corners right after the Wildcats goal. However, RU was unable to break through and Northwestern clinched the victory.
