Gianna Glatz Named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Following a pair of shutout victories over No. 9 Penn State, Rutgers field hockey goalkeeper Gianna Glatz was named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week on Monday. Glatz had 11 saves on the week in holding the Nittany Lions scoreless through 120 minutes of action in two Scarlet Knight wins.
On Friday, Glatz made five saves and held off PSU through seven corners for Rutgers' first win over Penn State since 1985. On Sunday, Glatz made six saves and held off PSU through 11 shots as RU completed the weekend sweep and picked up its first two ranked wins of the season.
Glatz earns her second Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week award this season. It is the sixth time in her career that she has been named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week.
With the Medford, N.J. native in net, Rutgers has allowed just five goals on the season through 10 games. Glatz, a returning All-American, currently boasts career-bests in goals-against-average (0.60) and save percentage (.889), and has tied her career best in solo shutouts with five. She is second nationally and first nationally in goals-against-average, while ranking fourth in the country in save percentage.
The Scarlet Knights boast a 7-3 record overall. The team remains at home to host a two-game series this Friday and Sunday against No. 3 Northwestern. Friday's game will be nationally televised by the Big Ten Network.
