PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Sophomore Leigha Devine has been selected for the 2021 U.S. Women's Open from June 3-6 at the Olympic Club in San Francisco. Devine, who is believed to be the first individual in Rutgers women's golf history to secure a spot at the prestigious event, earned a place in the field after she tied for second at the U.S. Open qualifier on May 10 in Spring Lake, New Jersey to secure first-alternate honors.
Devine produced a three-over-par 147 (77-70), which included a two-under-par 70 in the second round to force a three-way tiebreaker for the first-alternate spot.
In her second collegiate season, Devine played in seven events for the Scarlet Knights, averaging 76.81 over 21 rounds. The Windsor, Colorado, native carded a 76-74-81 (+15) at the Big Ten Championship last month and posted her best finish of the spring with a tied-for-ninth result (75-74-77) at the Pinehurst Intercollegiate on March 30.
