RALEIGH, N.C. – Rutgers women's golf produced a runner-up result at the City of Oaks Collegiate on Tuesday in Raleigh, North Carolina. Junior Emily James finished second competing as an individual, redshirt senior Grace Lu tied for third and freshman Elizabeth Ryu tied for fifth to highlight action for the Scarlet Knights at the Lonnie Pool Golf Course.
Fighting low temperatures and 20 mile-per-hour winds, RU held off Coastal Carolina to finish second in the 13-team field with a 37-over-par 905. Host No. 44 NC State won the team title with a 24-over-par 888, as the Wolfpacks' Marie Madsen produced a two-under-par 214 for the individual championship.
It marked the second runner-up team result for Rutgers this season after it finished second at the Princeton Invitational on October 5, 2025.
"Conditions were tough today with the temperatures about 40 degrees less than the previous days and the winds up," said head coach Kari Williams. "The team did a great job to battle back and stabilized their rounds after a rocky start. Emily, Grace, and Ellie were solid all week and put together strong performances. This was a good test for us as we gear up for the closing stretch of the spring."
James surged towards the top of the leaderboard after a blistering two-under-par 70 during Monday's second round. She continued her strong play on Tuesday, closing the tournament with eight birdies and a four-over-par 220. Her 70 in the second round was one of just seven 18-hole scores below par during the three-day tournament.
"I'm really pleased with how I played this week," James said. "I worked hard after our first two events to get my game back in shape and felt comfortable out at Lonnie Poole. My approach shots were solid and I played the slopes of the greens well. It was exciting for us to have a strong performance as a team as well."
Lu was consistent across her three rounds, producing a five-over-par 221 to tie for third in the 73-player field. Ryu delivered a three-over-par 75 on Tuesday to move up one spot to tied for third, giving Rutgers three top five individual results.
Round 3 – Tuesday, March 24
Weather: Cloudy, Temps in the low-40s, 10-20 mph winds
James was steady in her final round of the tournament, rolling in back-to-back birdies on holes 13 and 14 to go along with 10 pars. Lu fended off three bogeys with 15 pars, while Ryu contributed 15 pars and a birdie on hole seven to tie for fifth.
Sophomore Joline Truong jumped 11 spots to tie for 35th after a six-over-par 78. Junior Krystal Li was the biggest mover for the Scarlet Knights on day three, climbing 16 positions with her four-over-par 76 for a tied-for-42nd result. Sophomore Judy Amano rounded out the team scorecard tied for 48th.

James continued her strong play from Sunday, producing a two-under-par 70 during the second round Monday afternoon. James rolled in four birdies and added 12 pars to move up four spots to second place in the 73-player field.
Ryu also enjoyed an impressive Monday round thanks to her one-under-par 71. Ryu birdied holes three, six 11 and 18 to sixth. Lu matched her one-over-par 73 she had on Sunday to remain tied for third.
"I did a good job of staying patient today even after a few bogeys," Ryu said. "My iron play and approach shots were good, which gave me a few nice looks at birdie. This is a challenging course, but we're excited to have one more round out here."
