Scarlet Knights to host Temple in primetime on Sept. 2, homecoming game set for Oct. 9
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers football will open the 2021 season in primetime on Thursday, Sept. 2 at SHI Stadium. The Scarlet Knights were previously slated to play on Saturday, Sept. 4. Rutgers will also hold its annual Homecoming game on Saturday, Oct. 9 when it hosts Michigan State.
Game times and network designations will be announced at a later date. Additional information on Homecoming activities and future promotional dates will be made available later this summer.
The season-opening primetime matchup offers fans their first glimpse at the Scarlet Knights as the pandemic eliminated the general public from SHI Stadium. Rutgers football will look to carry the momentum head coach Greg Schiano created in 2020 into the 2021 campaign. In his return 'On the Banks,' the Scarlet Knights tied for the most Big Ten wins and recorded the most players recognized in All-Big Ten voting since joining the league in 2014.
In addition to hosting Temple in the season opener, Rutgers will face five other opponents at SHI Stadium, including Delaware, and Big Ten members Ohio State, Michigan State, Wisconsin and Maryland.
